  1. I like all these moves. If nothing else to help limit the Yips when they can help us in 2017.
  2. Everytime I think of the Jepson for Hu trade I cringe. It could be as bad a trade as Ramos for Capps. I think the game has passed Terry Ryan by.
  3. If I remember right, Mark Guthrie had this surgery and came back for about 8 or 9 years to an up and down relief career.
  4. AB Walker reminds me of Bobby Darwin who hit 65 HR for the Twins from 72-74. He also led the league in K's all 3 years. I'm anxious for Wade's promotion to see if he can continue to hit like he has in CR. Having seen him a couple of times, I think he has a chance to be really good.
  5. Mauer's 2015 production certainly makes this list. But I think he will have a bounce back year in 2016. It can happen. Morneau won a batting title after his long battle with concussions. And I certainly see the possibility of Danny Santana rebounding in 2016. He is just to talented. He seems to have had the classic "sophomore jinx". I wouldn't be surprised to see him open the season as the starting CF. Perkins really concerns me. He sure ran out of gas again. But I expect a bounce back from him too. The concussion issue sure has bitten the Twins. Josmil Pinto had so much promise until his concussions. He appears to be depth at DH now. Not in the top 5, but still a disappointment was Kennys Vargas.
  6. I have always liked Eddie Rosario and couldn't understand why some of the pundits wanted to trade him for GoGo Gomez in early July. I see a guy with the potential to hit .300 with 20 HR power for years to come. His splits are good and his defense great. Just so many assets in this young man.
  7. What an amazing list. It shows how far the Twins Minor League system has come. And this list doesn't even include names like: Kohl Stewart, Alex Meyer, Brett Lee, Alex Wimmers, DJ Baxendale, or David Hurlbut. All who are better then guys who were in the top 20 mix just 5 years ago like Deolis Guerra, David Brombert, Jeff Manship. Never have the Twins enjoyed such minor league riches.
  8. In years past payroll was suppose to be 53% of revenue. Many years revenue outdistanced the payroll by quite a bit. What happened to that money? Why isn't a percentage of those funds placed in a "Payroll Savings Account" that would allow the team to add a premium free agent when needed. Like this year! The timing couldn't be better with the Top Rated position players nearing the Big Leagues. Twins fans feel like the Twins have not kept there promises that if a new stadium was built we would have a middle of the pack payroll. 85 million does not cut it in Twins Territory!
  9. Of the 3 Cedar Rapids pitchers on the list. I would rank Chih-Wei-Hu ahead of both Gonsalves and Thorpe. When I saw him pitch he was really polished. But what a great situation to be in to have 3 very high ceiling young starters. Keep an eye on this young man Twins fans. Hu is really good.
  10. Nice Article. Don't know much about the criteria you've set, but Jim Kaat was a marvel in 1966. He led the league with 25 wins, 304 IP, a 1.07 WHIP, was an all-star and won the Gold Glove. There was only one Cy Young for both leagues back then or he would of won the AL Cy Young.
  11. I hope I am wrong. But he is looking more and more like a platoon guy. To bad, because the power he has is just what the Doctor ordered for Target Field.
  12. Anyone hear why a guy with good stats and a local guy, Austin Malinowski was released in early spring?
  13. Chih-Wei Hu is making me take notice. I live close to Cedar Rapids and have to get down to see him and Gonsalves soon. With the Big League club struggling so much, it's nice to be able to go see the young guys who could help turn this around in Minnesota.
  14. This article speaks to the obvious. Gardy needs to rethink his position on Platooning. Give a guy the greatest chance at success. Gene Mauch used this approach to get ultimate offensive performance from his teams. Remember DH, Jose Morales-RH Glen Adams LH, 2B, Bobby Randall-RH Rob Wilfong LH, OF, Hosken Powell-LH Bombo Rivera-RH Steve Braun-LH Steve Brye RH and on and on. If the Twins went with 3 catchers you could platoon Suzuki, Pinto and Hermann. In the Outfield and DH you could rotate Kubel, Arcia, Parmalee with Colabello Pinto. On some days Plouffe could sit and Escobar could play 3B. For this offense to get better, Gardy has to employ a little creative thinking, like Mauch did, and platoon guys to give them their greatest chance at success.
  15. I used to have drive to the Library and read the Tribune. And occasionally I could get Sid for 5 minutes, on the way to work with Dave Lee, if the weather was just right to get any off season Twins news. These guys talking Twins during the off season is great. I really appreciate the Gleeman and the Geek Show and now Jeremy and Seth are putting together a great video podcast. Thank God for the internet and these Super bloggers who give me my Twins fix in the winter months.
  16. "As Mackey himself points out, the only two starting pitchers that the Twins have drafted and guided to the major-league ranks in the past eight years are Kyle Gibson and Jeff Manship" Everytime I hear Manship's name I cringe. Then you look and see he is actually in the major leagues with Colorado. So as bad as the Twins pitching has been at least we aren't having to deal with Manship's lack of ability. How bad is Colorado's pitching situation if he has started 4 games for them. Or Houston having to pitch Phil Humber nearly a half a year. Maybe Houston and Colorado would be interested in Liam Hendriks? Looking at Seth Stoh's 2009 Prospect Book Manship was actually ranked our 14th best prospect. Other pitching propsects ahead of him were Anthony Swarzak (6th), Tyler Robertson (7th), Kevin Mulvey (8th), Carlos Gutierrez (10th), and Deolis Guerra (12th). Obviously Swarzak is the only one that worked out. Two things come to mind. Why are our scouts so poor at finding pitching prospects? And how can guys like Anthony Slama, when he was healthy, not get an extended look a few years back. Between the scouting and front office decisions on pitching it pretty much leaves us with the mess of starting pitching we have now.
  17. Note on Smalley: He was hitting .341 at the All-Star break and led the league in hitting for most of the first half. It was reminiscent of Rod Carew's year when he hit .388. At least for the first half. He got so many big hits for the Twins. But after the break, he went in the tank and hit about .171 the rest of the way.
  18. I like Seager. But none of the others impress me much. If they want Perkins they need to start their offer with Zach Lee.
  19. What kind of culture do the Twins have that they run off player after player.
  20. I just don't see enough talent with the bat to be an everyday player. At least not with the great group of kids coming up behind him. He's pretty much been passed by Arcia already. He might get a look as a 4th outfielder at some point during the season if injuries hit. If I'm the Twins I hope he does well enough in AAA, that he might be looked at as a platoon option with Parmelee in right if Parmelee struggles against lefties. His chances of making it with the Twins are pretty slim at this point though.
  21. I just don't like the race card thing. The Twins have always had a philosophy of signing the best "signable player". (ex: Ben Revere) They were a little slow getting established in Venezuela but have been catching up. Years ago the Senators-Twins had a great pipeline in Cuba until Castro shut that off. And some guys just won't play in Minnesota. In 1987 they traded for Don Baylor down the stretch. In 1991 they signed Chili Davis. Santana wanted to go to a bigger market. Plain and simple. But it was the Twins who gave him the shot to do the great things he did. And last but not least, sometimes a white guy is just the better player.
