  1. Fun! I absolutely love this! Sure would return some fan(nies) in the seats! . . . and NOT out of the realm of doable!
  2. If they would have waited, made him a qualifying offer, if he refused it - they'd get a 1st round pick - that right? Well, they didn't get a first rounder - typical Twins move - Dozier in the same category with a qualifying offer - they'll probably not get a 1st rounder for him either. More mediocrity!
  3. Great article! I don't know how to describe catcher ratings - it's like - I can't describe it, but I know it when I see it!
  4. Yeah - so - OK - 2 wins in the young season - Mmmmmm - My problem with the "breaking-camp-opening-day-roster" can be summed up in one question: "What's the plan for . . .?" What's the plan for Danny Santana? He's the utility infielder? - then who is Eduardo Escobar? He's the utility outfielder? - then who is Robbie Grossman? What's the plan for Berrios? He's already proven that he can dominate AAA - isn't time to get him in the major league rotation and let him pitch 6-7-8 games and find his way - or not? What's the plan for the bullpen? Where is the improvement? Oh, right - we're going to hope that 3 or 4 of these mostly retreads have a career year - hoping that again and again and again! What's the plan for spending $$$ on at least league average starters? We currently do not even spend up to the cap - why not? Hector? Oh Geez. Gibby??? Oh Oh. Time for him to fish or cut bait! Where's J T Chargois? Our best starter MIGHT be a #3 on any other team. I get that the new regime needs time to look over the roster and make some decisions after or during the coming year, but this is an all to familiar approach. I was at Wednesday's (4/05) game - couldn't have been 8K on the seats. Pretty sad for a MLB team.
  5. In what universe does it make sense to give him the least number of possible PA's? ie. hitting #9?
  6. I'm with Thrylos on this one - I've never been a big Hunter Guy - seems to me he's really all about Torii - the press guysl ike him though because he's always quotable. Take their salaries out of the PR budget, and let's sign some that will help this team win more than 59 games next year!
  7. My biggest problem with the Sano experiment is one of an historical perspective on how the Twins undermine the careers of "good" ballplayers in an effort to make them something that they have never been. Sending Sano to RF is a typical example of "the Twins Way" when it comes to hammering square pegs into round holes. Understand this: Miguel Sano is an infielder! He is a soon-to-be 23 year old (May 11) Dominican baseball player who has always played the infield. And he is a prodigious hitter! So the Twins take this 22 year old who is trying to break into the Bigs and put him in a position to fail. Read that again - they are not putting him in a position to succeed, but to fail. All young ballplayers struggle with their hitting at first. It takes a while to get comfortable with ML pitching, daily routines fitting in, the grind of day after day playing. So what do the Twins do??? Put him in a position that he has never played! Now that compounds his adjustment. Now you have a young player who not only is trying to make the jump to the majors, he is trying to make that leap while learning to play a NEW position! It opens him up to criticism by fans and writers (read here Reusse) who grumble about his size, work ethic, and ability. The point is - we are expecting Miguel Sano to not only learn to be a great hitter of major league pitching, but also to learn a new position; all the while exposing him to the negativity of being in the bright MLB lights while still learning. I'm guessing it has his head more than just swimming, he may be drowning!
  8. DO NOT RE-SIGN TORII!!! That's all I need to be happy. Well - OK - so maybe a replacement for Suzuki, and um - did I say Not Torii?
  9. For the past year and a half the Twins problems can't necessarily be blamed on cheapness - nope - it's a series of very poor baseball decisions, and still the major "decider" remains employed -. . .
  10. Yeah - Did you check Schaffer's lifetime gainst left handed pitching?
  11. All very true - but after 4 years of this foolishness, one can take the time to be "un-dude" like. I mean - how is this exciting? Does the front office realize that they are seriously in danger of fans enmass leaving the team? They are so predictable - every year they opt for older, more expensive, going no where players instead of young, higher upside, players. Really? Milone? Schaffer?? Pelfry??? Why not Tonkin, Myers, Rosarieo, Buxton, Sano . . . and what happened to Thielbar? I mean - a platoon in CF, and who starts against a lefty in the opener? Yep Schaffer who couldn't hit a little league lefty! AAAAARRRRGH!
  12. Worst headline of the past week: "(Terry) Ryan staying put".!
  13. Just another reclaimation project! A TR special ! He woujld settle to find that ONE successful vereran that was taken from the scrap pile so that some would say, "Geez, that Terry Ryan is really an astute baseball man." while the rest of the team flounders in medeocraty. Firing Gardy was pointless as long as TR remains at the helm. My worst fears coming true - NOT TORRI!!!
  14. Ha! The only reasomm they won't tip their SABRmetrics plan is because there is none!
  15. As has been said here MANY times - One can no longer point the fickle finger at stingy ownership . . . nope - it's has been a series of extremely poor baseball decisions that has the Twins in the predicament that they are in. So the obvious answer is to make some changes in the decision-makers.
  16. I can't believe this discussion is taking place - on ANY other MLB team the manager would not make it to the end of the season! (See Houston) The Pitching coach needs to go too, as well as TR. I've been a season ticket holder for the past 6 years - and unfortunately was witness to yet another Gardy decision, Phil Hughes pitching - rocky first 3 innings, then BAM! he gets 3 straight 1-2-3 inings and is crusing - 101 pitches, but mosty well located fast balls - mysteriously Gardy decides that it's time for his "8th inning guy", apparently because, "that's the way we have always done it!". We get our fannies handed to us in the 8th and 9th - go on to lose 8-5. Perkins bobblehead night - crowd announced at 28k - I'd be shocked if there were more than 15K there. Heard a lot of people in my section (105) questioning the baseball decisions of that night and the past 4 years. It's time to move on . . .
