  1. I'm not sure Washington is in the mix anymore for Donaldson at his price. I'm not sure we should be. Is he an upgrade at 3rd and to the lineup? Sure. Is he a 110K/4 years at age 34 upgrade? Not so sure. I thought Gonzalez played a better 1st than Cron last year. La Tortuga may have played a better 1st than Cron last year! My gut tells me that the market for Donaldson is cooling and that he ultimately signs with Atlanta for less than the Twins are offering. If we stumble this year, I don't think 1st/3rd will be the reason, it will be pitching.
  2. Basically, what I read is that we are forced to look within the organization to fill the gaps.
  3. No, they are not making calls that favor the Yanks...but they do want them in the playoffs...I would too if I were them. It's a business and when the Yankees are in the playoffs, it's good for business. I didn't like starting Arrias in game 1 and I thought it cost us 3 runs. Would have changed the game, but probably not the outcome. Tonight is throw everything but the kitchen sink at them. No sense saving Rogers to close out a game. We might need him in the 3rd inning.
  4. We have pitched scared...trying to make the perfect pitch. That plays into their strength which is a patient approach at the plate. Meanwhile, they have taken away our strength of hitting fastballs in fastball counts over the fence by throwing off speed pitches to get ahead, a fastball or two out of the strike zone to set up another off speed pitch to finish us off. If we don't adapt, we are done.
  5. Well, you could argue that our ace is out due to an untimely urine sample. That pretty much sealed our fate. MLB wants the Yankees in the playoffs...it's about money. I doubt they will get that untimely urine sample that takes their ace out of the playoffs.
  6. I agree that Schoop Doggy Dog will play well in the playoffs. Schoop's arm when turning the DP is stronger than anyone else's as well. Here's the part about having so many questionable guys on the roster...it also affects the bullpen and I think Rocco would like to go with a bigger bullpen. However, if he does that, he cuts down on his options in the field and if those unhealed injuries come back to bite them, they need people off the bench....enter La Tortuga. The most versatile guy on the team. Putting him on the roster gives Rocco a little more bullpen flexibility.
  7. A couple of things. I want the Yankees knocked out as much as anybody, but let's face it. When the Yankees our knocked out, the viewing audience goes down. As much as I want the Yankees out, MLB doesn't and that counts for something....just sayin! Second, I'm glad the Twins are the highest home run hitting team in the history of the game. I think the Yankees HR numbers are inflated by the ball park just like an Oakland pitchers can be skewed by a ton of foul territory. All those foul balls that just make it into the seats are in play at Oakland and plenty of routine outs make it into the seats at Yankee stadium. We earned out dingers!
  8. I confess...I turned it off after the two run homer in the top of the 12th. I was nodding off anyway...I need to watch the replay.
  9. Hmmm. Well, Cleveland is 1 game out of the wildcard right now and I would like to see the Twins take out the Yankees, have Cleveland sneak in and win the wildcard playoff game, and then take out Houston with their solid pitching staff. Honestly, if those 4 teams are the last 4 standing in the AL, the Yankees and the Twins have the two worst pitching staffs from a starting pitching perspective. Indians bullpen is wobbling (and that is being kind). When it comes to the playoffs, you ride the starting staff as far as they will take you and then roll the dice on your bullpen. Pitch counts be damned! That said, I hope the Twins knock Cleveland even further down the ladder in the next 10 days.
  10. If the Twins were to play .500 ball the rest of the way and win 12 of 24, the Indians would have to win 19 of the 23 that they have left to win the division outright. 18 of 23 gives them a tie. So, just win Twins and we are good to go.
  11. Have we not learned anything over the past umpteen years? Think about how many minor league prospects were touted as the next great <fill in the blank>. Now, how many of those reached the expectations that you had for them? Comparing Graterol to David Price is just <fill in the blank>.
  12. Here's a couple of possibilities - Squiggy Squirrel, Nutty T. Squirrel, Minny Squirrel (although that could constitute and infringement on Minnie and Paul), Rally Squirrel, and the obvious Hammy T. Squirrel which is borrowed from Over the Hedge. However, I think his name is just a single name...kind of like Cher, Madonna....and now Bomba. His name is just Bomba.
  13. Yeah, I think Luis was taking what they were giving....more curiously, Ryan Braun attempting to bunt with 2 outs? What was that about?
  14. https://www.mlb.com/news/2019-mlb-teams-with-toughest-remaining-schedules Twins have the easiest remaining schedule. We just need to breath, get healthy, and play ball like we all know this team can.
  15. Two of four and I'll be thrilled. One of four is probably what I expect based on recent play...I think we have been sloppy on the mound and sloppy in the field. Anyone know what our winning percentage is when Buxton is on IL?
  16. Calm down...Cleveland got smoked by the stro's so we lost no ground...didn't put them any further in the mirror either...but we will. Cleveland's record against teams >.500 is 16-23 while ours is 29-24. Of the next 26 games for the Tribe, only 6 are against teams with a losing record. Of the next 28 games for the Twins, 15 of them are against teams with losing records. September also works in our favor slightly, but August is where we pull away.
  17. Hope this is true...Astros get Greinke. Wow! Hope he throws against Cleveland tonight.
  18. I don't see much trading happening by the Twins or anyone else. Maybe there will be a flurry, but the asking prices are too high for a lot of teams to mortgage the future for a maybe.
  19. I feel like Diaz was probably 6th or so in line for 1B. We get a hard throwing prospect that may one day help us whereas Diaz probably would not. Call it even. Oh and we got this Romo guy who should fill a bullpen spot...and a ptbnl. We win.
  20. They are winning by 1 run over bad teams...teams that they should be blowing out. We got this. We are the better team and their schedule changes after July. Also, look at the last 3 weeks of the season for them and the Twins. No comparison. They play 2 teams with losing records (White Sox and Tigers). Twins play the Nats at home, Cleveland on the road, and then it's White Sox, Tigers, Royals the rest of the way. Twins win the division.
