  1. Mauer's best years he was surrounded by a top 5 starting pitcher, a top 5 closer, a top-tier first baseman, Torii Hunter, etc...The Twins did not waste his talent. His hitting just slowly but steadily fell off the cliff. And only he is to blame for that. Even if it was more his body than anything.
  2. Finally a FO that is decisive and realistic. Maybe I'm wrong but the past guy would have sat on Kintzler and crossed his fingers.
  3. Really hoping Gonsalves can slot in behind Berrios starting next season. He seems very intelligent from what I've read. So I think he will figure out hitters and how to succeed. We need him to pan out pretty badly.
  4. Why are u comparing major league stats when Gordon doesn't have any? This is a projection based on talent and physical ability. No need to be so pessimistic. Rollins wasn't a power hitter until he was in his middle late 20's. Gordon is starting to show signs of that developing. To say "not even close" is a heavy-handed falsehood. I'm sure many scouts would rank Gordon on a similar plane as Rollins as prospects.
  5. Not trading Gordon. He's either not enough, or too much to give. And guys who have a ceiling of something like Jimmy Rollins are valuable.
  6. I'm really happy about Lewis. He's going to play a premium position. For so long the Twins have been weak at those spots. You can't just put a live body with a glove their anymore. Even if he ends up in the outfield he's a plus, plus, runner with a plus bat. Can't go wrong. Loooking forward to Royce.
  7. I'm out on Wright too. His arm action and lower body strength looks like injury risk Greene or Lewis.
  8. I think McKay smoke is indeed to get the best price possible on Wright (or Greene)
  9. Nolan Ryan had tremendous leg and hip strength, according to the mechanics gurus. Wright also has a pretty high injury risk according to them. Greene has more risk *right now*, but if he can get stronger in a relatively shortish amount of time, meaning he has to focus on it immediately, he's very much worth the pick.
  10. Don't want any part of this guy. A first baseman or a third starter (most likely). No way! Wright or Greene.
  11. I'm down for taking Wright now as well. Greene is a super enticing gamble for me, but if guys like Gonsalves, Gordon, and others are likely to be ready next season, Wright would fit right in that time frame. If Berrios becomes our number 1 starter, a punch of him and Wright could be terrifyingly good.
  12. Green being 3 plus years younger than Wright is huge for me. Wright is still going to need 2 years of development time, most likely. He doesn't have an elite pitch. Just 4 "good" ones. He could grow in that aspect, but Greene is more likely to grow given projectability and age and talent. The way I see it, there are pitchers like Wright in every draft. Greene may not be generational, but he's far more rare. His feel for pitching isn't a shot in the dark, etc..I would hate to pass on him.
  13. Nothing I've read about Wright suggests he should be clearly ahead of Greene. He also has flaws in his delivery and doesn't have a devastating out pitch. He's also 3-4 years older than Greene. Greene can get Professional coaching at 17 to correct and develop him. His ceiling is much higher, simply put. And, IMO, his floor isn't much lower.
  14. Greene. Judging a HS player only by his stats is, uh, not the smartest. Buxton didn't destroy the ball in HS. Should we have passed on him for a "safe college bat who's unlikely to fail entirely"? It's called projection and makeup, history, etc...Greene has shown and possesses more than enough to go 1-1 in this draft. Break the cycle.
  15. I'm scared this team is going to pass on Greene and majorly regret it when he becomes Roy Halladay or something.
  16. He'll be our best starter immediately. He's ready. The Ace we've been waiting for since Cytana.
  17. I hated giving up Hu in the Jepsen deal. Thought it was a horrible, short-sighted move by TR, but we'll see.
  18. Stewart's starting to make me eat my words after I called him a bust last season. I wouldn't be impressed, but he's striking out batters now. Hope is not lost.
  19. If Meyer can transition into one of the best RPs in baseball within a couple of years, I'd say that's a solid outcome for him. I'll take 5-7 years of him decimating batters one inning at a time.
  20. Keeps his "high 90's fastball"?? He doesn't have a high 90's fastball. Maybe it touched that last year for one inning after he had an extra cup of coffee that morning. By reports, he touches the mid-90's and sits in the low 90's. That's nothing special. If you're not willing to bet against him yet, that's fine. But I am. Like others have said, he should be dominating A-ball hitters on raw talent alone. The guy was drafted top 5 overall, not in the 40th round. He just doesn't have it.
