I just learned about this option for our annual 3-par, 18 hole, pitch ‘n putt tournament. I’m bad at golf, so I can’t wait to try the “best ball scramble”!
Hope you can get out there! We are probably about the same age, and I’m fortunate to be in good health. I’d say to others, “If you can play sports, keep at it!”
Tell me if I am remembering this correctly: During a game in the 1987 World Series, McCarver criticizes Gaetti for playing too far off the line against a Cardinal hitter. On the next pitch, the batter lines directly into Gaetti’s glove. McCarver: “Give that man a PhD!”
Hard choices, but have to include Puck. I’m a long term fan, and I think he really changed the dynamic toward winning and the way fans began to relate with real love (and not just “Minnesota niceness”) for the team.
Maybe it is just a matter of taste: I happen to prefer a team that plays great defense and is able to play small ball when needed. The Bomba squad had good chemistry and was fun, but it isn’t what I will cherish most in my 50 plus years of being a Twins fan.
…while the Vikings are in a playoff game..:) I actually did try to follow the game thread here, even though I am not specifically a Vikes fan. It was fun to see Twins fans I know here suffering through a big Vikings game.
Also, not claiming Leo Cardenas was the best, but sooo steady, with a solid bat. Thompson’s 1972 season was promising enough that it almost helped us forget Leo. The rest is pretty tragic history.
As a New York commentator said last week, Boras has every incentive to build up a good relationship with Mets owner Steve Cohen, given that he is now the MLB owner most willing to throw money around to Boras’s clients. The failure to cinch the Correa deal is indeed an odd one.
Also became hooked in 1967. After that great pennant race, I said, “Wait ‘til next year.” It then took us 20 years to finally meet the Cardinals in the World Series. Worth the wait…
Happened to me, too. I became a long-distance Twins fan in New Jersey at age 10 because of my brother. As an adult, he moved to New England and became a Red Sox fan. But because he wears only a David Ortiz jersey, I’m left without too much to say.
Very insightful article all Twins fans should read. Thanks! I guess Ortiz did use the next five years to sound a little less self-absorbed in his Hall of Fame induction speech.
Out here in New York, I agree. Signing the guy to play third base since they already have a superior shortstop? Of course, it reminds one of A-Rod signing with the Yankees to play third base. (Not suggesting here that Carlos is A-Rod; but it is surprising that the money meant more than aspiring to be the best shortstop in baseball). Maybe he does have a physical issue that he worries about.
