  1. Thank you for bringing up the comparison. Moderators had muted me when I tried to comment on Darvish and this topic a month ago. IMO Kimbrell would have signed with the Cubs unless the Twins massively had the bigger offer. Now let's use some of these prospects and go get us a closer before the deadline.
  2. Odorizzi was tough. He knows how to pitch. Worked both sides of the plate and kept bats off balance with breaking stuff. His fast ball up in the zone absolutely tied batters up. Hoping that the rest of the staff can duplicate the command. Optomistic after watching him.
  3. This young man makes it difficult for the "glass half empty voices on this site" to say anything negative. Hard worker, humble and just gets it. It doesnt matter what position he ends up playing Lewis will be fun to watch mature.
  4. Either you're a believer or not. Let's believe that now "yes I'll have my eggs odor izzi" will regain his 3 slot stuff. He is only 27 and has proven that he can do the job.
  5. When you say if you had to lean one way or another, Tampa got the better of the deal. COME ON MAN!
  6. Like most trades only time will tell who got the better end of the trade. I believe Falvey is a capable and bright baseball mind. I believe any decisions that are made by him are to make the Twins a better team. I believe that he has more information than any of us to make these decisions. I believe he is a better GM than any of us. Some posters might not agree with these beliefs by the sound of it!
  7. Or just maybe in this case you have a pitcher that is top 3 in salary on a team that also designated another top 3 salary the same day. Salary dump! Odorizzi trended down last year but finished strong and Tampa believes they can replace him with a young cheaper arm since the team is going nowhere. I dont have Tampa GM on speed dial so don't know what other offers they had. From the Twins perspective, only a glass half empty view can look at this trade and not feel optomistic. This trade buys us time for the young guys and improves our rotation vs. 2017.
  8. If you read what their front office is saying they absolutely believe that Palacios is going to be a stud. Odorizza was their 2 or 3 pitcher and yes they had doubts about him going forward due to high home run totals. Most importantly they have numerous young arms to throw out there. As far as someone beating the Twins offer you'll have to tell me what Tampa Bay was looking for as their best offer for him.
  9. They call it a salary dump by Tampa Bay.Top 3 salary on their team also designating Dickerson proves this.
  10. I've defended Falvey and have been a strong supporter of his moves. This one though has me scratching my head. I don't see where he fits. This looks like a throw enough **** against the wall maybe some of it will stick move. We already had one older broken down arm in Hughes.
  11. I guess time will tell whether we missed out on Darvich or not. Just my opinion but I think we'll be glad we didnt pay him. Yes he would of provided us a true #1 when not on the DL but this also allows us to usher in our young pitchers and get the ball to May when he is ready. Santana will only miss a handful of starts so our rotation of Berrios Gibson Meija Gonsalves? Duffey? Or new signing??? vs. 2017 of Santana Santiago Hughes Meija Gibson (Berrios was called up in May) looks in as good as shape to me to start the year. Keep the faith Twins fans all is not lost! Gonsalves and Romero have a lot of UNPROVEN talent so add them to Berrios and we will see the makings of a young core that we can grow with hopefully sometime in 2018.
  12. I am in complete agreement with so many unknowns. I like the idea of finding that stopgap guy who will sign a one year deal. We had great hope for May as a solid starter until his injury. I still believe he will be a solid starter hopefully by the second half of the season. I like May over Cobb and Lynn especially with the 3 or 4 year commitment the later two will be looking for. I also think that Gonsalves and Romero will both get looks in spring training and one will earn enough praise to earn a shot early on. So what I see post All Star game is Santana,Berrios,Gibson,May and Gonsalves or Romero.
  13. Bullpen now vastly improved. Dont forget about our young arms that also may help at some point this season. Now trade for Cole or Archer. Shorter term committment than Darvich and much cheaper for now. Buys us time to see what the young guys look like and how May comes back. Darvich is just going to take too long a contract at 25mm plus per year. He has too many question marks and has a history of the injury bug.
