  1. I meant the Tigers lose 8 (not 6, typo) as they would both lose an additional 4 against us and the Indians...
  2. If you classify MLB by Upper (teams with > than 3 games above .500), Mid (those at least <=3 + or - .500), and Lower (teams > than 3 games below .500) you can compare the following through the Twins first 60 and Tigers first 58 games: Winning % Twins Tigers Upper = .429 .385 Mid = .448 .576 Lower = .700 .750 % of games played Twins Tigers Upper = 35% 22% Mid= 48% 57% Lower= 17% 21% Of course the discrepancy is largely due to fact that the Tigers are in an Upper class themselves. If you calc out rest of season based on winning % thus far this season within each category, the Twins end up 79-83 and the Tigers 93-69. HOWEVER, if you look at just the Indians and Twins winning % against the Tigers thus far and apply those winning percentages to the remaining 28 games the Tigers must play against both us and Tito’s group, the Tigers lose 6 games (down to 85-77) and we pick up 4 (up to 83-79). This makes the rest of season incredibly interesting assuming we continue to play at pace we have so far…
  3. It is always fun to check in with how our former players are performing. It seems like ex twins are found in bunches. Rockies have Cuddy back after being down with injury and is seeing ball well. Hawkins looks gassed after great start as tgeir closer and of course Mourneau is tearing the ball and not just at home. With Milwaukee Gomez is off pace from torrid stretch last year but still putting up numbers to envy any of our of production. Both Lohse and Garza have helped propel the crew to their fast start. Too early to tell but Nolasco
  4. One possible outcome of the come to jesus meeting with Pelfrey (as mentioned) might be to eat the salary since he sounds against both bullpen and demotion options. Frankly, I am all for it a) because it is not my money at least Nishi had the class to forego his last year of guaranteed money which the brass could apply to this contract mistake and c) how much would it cost to bring back Scott Baker?? Surely his AAA numbers bode well for AT THE MINIMUM an improvement over what Pelf has given us. A heavily incentived 1 year deal with option for another should do it. Didn't his agent just contact the Twins who basically said 'no interest'...we have the worst starting rotation in baseball (again) and we passed up an opportunity to get a rebounding veteran on the cheap. I simply do not get it.
  5. Ba lists chris taylor ss in top 10 and guesses mlb ready by late 2014. Above avg fielder hit .312 in aa and is definitely blocked
  6. Seems like they could use a stop gap in rotation after first 2 days of camp 2 starters down/iffy. Do they have a ss prospect that would match in a trade for one of worley/gibson/deduno or maybe one of our 4 lh aaaa ceiling Guys?
  7. now that the Janks have landed Tanaka, where do you think the following starters end up? Here is my guesses: 1) garza- diamondbacks 2) santana, e- cubs 3) jimenez- mariners 4) arroyo- angels 5) maholm, rangers hope we get suk-min cheaply

  9. What about grabbing Mark Reynolds for a 1 year deal? Worked pretty well for Cleveland last year. It could both push Trevor until Sano is up and give Mauer some DH days/days off at 1st, plus be another non AAA bench option for Gardy. What would it cost and would you do it?
  10. Since the front office will not use the language 'full rebuild'- let's take them at their word and approach offseason with dual purpose of setting us up with more depth for future while also fielding a more competitive team in 2014. While many postings are rightly talking up the minor league teams and speculating as to when/who will make impact, I'd like to know what realistic estimates would be for the following moves for 2014 as I believe this combination of trying to field a somewhat competitive team while building for future is right approach. 1) posting fee Masahiro Tanaka ($25mil?) 2) salary/yr to sign Tanaka ($10M/5yr?) 3) salary/yr and number of years Alexander Guerrero ($9M/4yr?) 4) salary/yrs to extend Pelfrey ($5M/2yr?) 5) salary/yrs to sign Maholm ($6M/2yr?) 4) flyer on Scott Baker (1.5M+inc/1yr?) 5) flyer on Johan Santana (1.5M+inc/1yr?) How unrealistic is it to think the Twins might throw $25 as posting fee and $33 million to upgrade roster? 60% is to lock down SS and potential staff Ace into era of prospects rising. Am I high? What are reasonable returns- hopefully pitching depth: 1) Dozier at winter meetings while value high 2) Willingham/Doumit at 2014 deadline assuming career average production through half season ? While I like where TR and the draft order benefit of sucking has taken our farm system, I am so ready to see the Twins take mentality of TRULY competing every year. Thoughts appreciated.
  11. Whew- saw the twins lose to cleveland then went to cedar rapids to see last nights Kernals game. I thought Sulbaran was interesting but not dominant. The hits he gave up early weren't spectacular and he was victimized by sketchy D early. Then he began missing corners and got into trouble. According to game radar, he never got above 89 but had intriguing changeups that got between 71-73 MPH. Looked to be a poor mans Albers, but for Butera I think it was a solid trade...
  12. With yadi out, the cards suddenly need a catcher. TR needs to get someting for Doumit. Strike now!!!

  14. Just designated for assignment. 28 y/o plays 2nd/ss/3rd. Looks like a an upgrade with stick over our other current options and solid fielder. Anyone know more about him? Should the Twins bite?
