There's definitely a strong possibility if we snag him with an opt-out laden package again that he'll leave after the first opt out if he's raking. I'm personally okay with that for three reasons. 1. Get his salary off the books to transition towards other signings, or extensions. 2. If he opts out so early, it's more than likely it's because he was absolutely raking for the Twins, and he thinks he can get even more going back to FA. 3. Theoretically, Lewis, and/or Lee should be contributing at the MLB level and could potentially swap over. This one is a big what if, but I'm a believer in both of them to come up and doing well in the coming years. I think in today's market you're almost always going to end up overpaying for a top tier FA unless their name is Mike Trout. With that I 100% agree with you, I just think that's just what it takes to get these big pieces in the door for any organization, let alone little ol' MN. I guess you can't have your cake, and eat it too. ?

There's no reason to believe he'll fall off a cliff like that anytime soon unless you're really worried about his back. I don't think it's as much of a coin toss as you're making it out to be. He is a decorated professional for a reason. In his first 8 years he was a 129 OPS+ hitter. He will start to drop off once he starts to approach and eclipse his mid 30s, but he's in the middle of his prime now, and with how money is trending in baseball at the end of the 10 years what we're paying him won't be nearly as massive as it seems today. You throw in intangibles like leadership, clubhouse presence, etc.. I think he's worth the splash. More so than any other FA not named Aaron Judge. I also personally feel like this FO NEEDS to prove to the fanbase they're willing to go for it and not live in mediocrity forever, or commit to a rebuild. I'm begging for a Correa resigning at this point.

I really like the idea of picking Kumar Rocker with the possibility to impact the majors as soon as next year, His medicals definitely could be a concern, but I think the upside is well worth it. He's got true top-of-the-rotation stuff with the pedigree to boot. The top of the draft is flush with really solid, projectable bats. BUT, The Twins have a lot of elite bat, 1B/corner OF types in their system. Kirilloff, Larnach, Wallner, Sabato, Encarnacion-Strand (I know he's a 3B now but projects more LF/1B.) Not to mention Rooker, who we traded off partially because we have a glut of these kind of players.

Would Bringing Back Kyle Gibson Makes Sense?
TeJayDubz replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Why would we trade for Gibson when we have Josh Winder down in AAA? We need to make a move but this isn't it. I like Gibson a lot but he won't move the needle like we would need him to.- 28 replies

I definitely did a double take when I saw this headline. He retired for a couple years, but came back to the Phillies last year. He converted to a full time reliever this year and is posting impressive numbers in AAA. Great baseball story I love moments like this!

Twins Trade Deadline Targets: Relief Pitchers
TeJayDubz replied to cHawk's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I think there's real opportunity to kill two birds with one stone here and try to get a package of Montas, and Puk from the A's. It'll cost a lot but both holes are incredibly important to fill. -
Miguel Sano Update - Running Progression
TeJayDubz replied to bean5302's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
This is what makes his hitting issues so hard to fix. Statistically he has a great eye and rarely swings at pitches outside of the zone he just misses damn near every pitch inside the zone. -
GAME THREAD: 6/9/22 Twins vs Yankees, 6:40PM CT
TeJayDubz replied to Mill1634's topic in Archived Game Threads
This is exactly what the Twins needed to do. Cole has 32 pitches coming out of the first. We started the game with a statement, now we need Bundy to go back out and shut the door, without giving up offensive pressure. -
4-5 IP, 4 runs or less I'll be content. All we need is the bare minimum to stay competitive and lean on our bats the rest of the way. Our lineup looks solid tonight I'm hoping we can take it to Cole. As good as he is, he is known to have a poor outing here and there. He's very human and we proved yesterday we can handle top of the league SP.

Game Thread: Yankees @ Twins 6:40pm 6/8/2022
TeJayDubz replied to Danchat's topic in Archived Game Threads
Agreed! In my opinion, he's a lot like Buxton where even if he isn't performing the greatest, his presence and leadership resonates in that clubhouse and makes our team that much more confident and successful. I feel like I'm in the minority that both wants Correa to stay with the Twins, and thinks there's a strong chance he does after reading/listening to interviews with Correa, and the FO. -

I'm going to skip over all the Correa COVID talk and just say this: I'm happy he's back! The Twins are a better team with our 35 million dollar man in the lineup. Palacios handled himself well and fielded the position excellently. Sucks to see him go down, but I think his audition was well received by the FO, and Twins fans alike. I'm excited to see how the Twins handle Cortes with how he's pitching this year. That caterpillar has been dominating the league this year! I thought Yankees players weren't allowed any facial hair. Do they allow just moustaches now? All jokes aside I hope we can rise to the occasion like we've been against strong SPs of late. Go Twins! -
Is It Time to Move on From Tyler Duffey?
TeJayDubz replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
In the OP his location charts proved that he's not nibbling at all actually. He's leaving hittable pitches over the heart of the plate, and will diminished velocity at that. I'm on the DFA bandwagon I like too many of our depth pieces to keep watching him almost blow 5-run leads in the 9th.- 56 replies

Game Thread: Twins @ Blue Jays, 6/5/22 @ 12:37 CT
TeJayDubz replied to wsnydes's topic in Archived Game Threads
Yes, though if we can even get a couple young prospects for him I think it would better than releasing him. Even if you're eating his salary to make the trade happen. No way the Twins pick up his option, even if they are interested in resigning him. I was thinking that too once Royce is back healthy he'll be more expendable. We already traded him once for a mid-to-front end starter. Why not do it again?? -

My bad for some reason I thought he was in 2017 you're totally right! I've never checked Baseball Reference so fast in my life ? J.D. Martinez has to slow down a little bit first. I think everyone else in the race will but him he's a true triple crown threat. I'm still in favor of trading him to the highest bidder, or designating him for assignment and being done with his contract. With our depth on the IF corners and Buxton entrenched at DH every third game there's no way he gets consistent ABs in the majors. -

I was only talking about the very next 4 games. Normally he plays two games in a row, I'm hoping with the extra day of rest he'll go 3 days in a row. I also think as we move into past the trade deadline and into August he will be forced into a more everyday role until rosters expand Sept. 1. I agree that's why I'll be happy if we get 100 out of him. He only did it one other time when he was an AS, and platinum glove winner. Any player who has the talent and ability to play their way into MVP talks without 150+ games is special, and is worth trying to keep healthy however you can manage it in my opinion. -

I'm definitely guilty of that in my time as a ballplayer ? I thinking it'll be a low-K, high-BB day for him. This team is just downright potent when it comes to hitting LHP. If he keeps getting double plays like that though we'll be just fine! -

Hernandez is known for having an absolute cannon in RF. I give Miranda props against the majority of the league I feel he makes that, but I agree you can't make that out there. I don't think anyone in the Twins fandom loves, or even likes what they're doing. I justify it as picking the lesser of two evils and protecting their investment. Maybe with two days off we get him for 3/4 instead of 2/3. If Buxton breaks 100 games this year I'll be content knowing he played as much as his body let him without going on the IL. -
I really like this concept. No way we move Lewis, but Martin I feel is expendable. I don't see space for him in our IF or OF and with his lack of power since going pro I'm wary. Even with Martin's struggles I still feel that he's valued over Wallner at this point. I also don't see a world where they give us Montas and Laureano for just Kepler and Martin/Wallner. With our crowded OF I wouldn't necessarily want him either! I'd ask for AJ Puk and throw in another prospect at the bottom third of our top 30. I've been looking for an excuse to suggest moving Keoni Cavaco before he becomes dead weight, I think this is it!? All jokes aside I think there's a real opportunity for a big deal between the A's and the Twins to come to fruition in the next 6 weeks or so.

He's slugging .533 with 9 XBH out of 32 hits. I think he's at least figured his wrist out to a point he can swing effectively again. What I find even more incredible is that he's walked 18 times to only 16 SOs as well at AAA. With him seeing the ball this well we need to get him back up ASAP. Maybe after we get back state-side??

Twins Daily 2022 Draft Coverage, June 2
TeJayDubz replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
He pitched well in his semi-pro ball debut. If he's still on the board when the Twins swing around again at #48 I'd snatch him in a heartbeat. No way will he go 1st round though. -
Where's all the Taylor Rogers talk now?????
TeJayDubz replied to cheeseheadgophfan's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
This whole season so far I've been saying the Twins need to be okay with making splashes, and potentially unpopular trades and be okay if they implode, as long as it was done with the intention of making the team better. I do believe the Rogers trade was made with the intention of making the team better, regardless of opinion on if it actually did make the team better or not. I was okay with the Rogers trade because of Paddack and Pagan's upside, and I stand by that. Even with Paddack rehabbing TJ and Pagan giving me a heart attack every outing. We still have several years of control on both of them and I'm fairly certain we wouldn't have made a serious effort to lock him up long term. Not to mention we have SO MANY potential viable bullpen arms in AAA and AA that are pitching well, both prospects and depth pieces. We'll see who the winner is in a couple of years, but in my very uneducated opinion the Twins need to be willing to take more risks like this to stay competitive. -
Reviewing the José Berríos Trade
TeJayDubz replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I've always liked Simeon Woods Richardson from his draft day with the Mets. He's got a high ceiling but his high floor is where I'm most impressed. I'm really looking forward to seeing his debut in the coming months/year.- 29 replies

No way we issue a qualifying offer to Sanchez, but I wouldn't be opposed to locking him up for a couple more years if he continues his current production and the moneys right. I agree that his defense hasn't been nearly as bad as advertised, and for some reason I just feel comfortable with him coming to the plate in big situations. A lot more than Jeffers. Not to mention he's a double machine as of late.

I agree I almost threw up a little bit when I saw Celestino's name and not Duffey.
