With the minor league all star games approaching - Whom do you see making their respective League All Star Games? Several non top prospects are having excellent seasons.
I've been studying the possible roster of the Ft. Myers Miracle this 2014 season. They are almost a replica of the 2013 Kernels except they are starting the season with Kepler as opposed to Buxton. Seth and Jeremy had different opinions as to how well they would do. One said they wouldn't even make the playoffs and the other had them with the best team within the organization. That being said - What do you think?
Crazy Question: 1) Would you rather have player (A) who averaged 1 hit per game while going 1 for 4 every game during his season, but got on base at a .250 OBP and had a .527 Slugging Percentage. (30 HRs / 10 Triples / 30 Doubles / 92 singles / 302 Total Bases / 104 Runs Scored / 124 RBI)? or 2) Would you rather have player ( who through an entire season, got on base at a .405 OBP and had a .468 Slugging percentage. (10 HRs / 4 Triples / 28 Doubles / 168 singles / 276 Total Bases / 84 Runs Scored / 62 RBI)? Consider that these stats stay pretty consistent from year to year. Both players play for the same team, however player “A” hits in the 4 hole and Player “B” hits in the 2 hole. Which player would you consider more valuable? Both have a strong value in terms of winning needs. The crazy question becomes: Who helps us win now with the current roster in place? And Who helps us win more in 2016 and beyond?
In my opinion - Player "A" is a game changer and Player "B" is the model of consistency. Player "A" can change a game outcome with 1 swing, while Player "B" needs a stronger cast of players around him to prove his worth. YOUR PICK WOULD BE............? & WHY?
Max Kepler is listed 14th amongst minor league first basemen. He is ahead of some promising names. Is anyone else surprised by this? 1st Base? Is this a sign moving forward?
The previous article on clutching hitting and pitching is a great analysis on the subject. My question is this: Is Clutchness a State of Mind or does it have to be developed throughout your minor league development?
There are roughly 145 minor league players in the Twins organization. As I look at the Twins current players - I found these approximate numbers: 96 Players - White 66% 40 Players - Hispanic / Latino 28% 06 Players - African American 4% 03 Players - Asian 2%
Does anyone know how these numbers correlate with the rest of the (MLB) league? This has the Twins with at least 34% of their MiLB players being minorities. What happened to all the African American baseball players in America?
It was fun watching the Cedar Rapids players getting along so well and playing as a team. Coach Mauer did an excellent job of bringing his diverse ball club together and playing as professionals. They seem to have genuine love for each other. I'm excited to see these players grow into future Twins at the MLB level.
His above statistical numbers improved greatly in the next 5 years of his MLB career. Braun's Minor League Numbers (A - AA - AAA) 151 Games 31 HRs 102 Runs 97 RBI .297 BA 111 K's 57 BB's His minor league OBP% was outstanding however (.346 / .367 / .403)
Prospect "A" Indicators (Minors -A ball) BB% - 5.6 k% - 20.8 BABIP - .304 OBP% - .319
129 Games 27 HRs 83 Runs 109 RBI .278 BA 115 K's 31 BB's
*Prospect "A's" low OBP could lead us to believe he is unlikely to mirror Brauns abilitiy to achieve stardom.
*Prospect "A's" power numbers and similar BB Rate and K Rate could lead us to believe we have a probable star in our organization.
*Braun's ability to improve his BB Rate and K Rate at the MLB level - years 3 thru 8 show that adjustments can be made at all levels. How many of us would welcome Braun's Sophomore season despite the similar BB% & OBP% as prospect "A". Or would we sell high because the numbers show otherwise longterm?
The Yankees might be losing thier best player in Robinson Cano. That being said: They have no second basemen in their minor league system who are worthy of even playing 2nd base at the MLB level. Why not trade for Michael Pineda and give up one of our stud 2nd basemen and another prospect or prospects for a potential top pitcher? Does this sound possible? The Yankees can always pay for Top pitching to supplement this season and beyond. Not as easy to find a stud second baseman and we have 2-3. Thoughts..................
The below list is from the Twins 2013 Minor League All Stars. The question is:
If the 2013 statistical numbers of the MiLB players on this list were projected to possible similar numbers in 2016 @ the MLB level - Would the Twins be in the World Series? Take into account that the MiLB players are probably 20 - 30+ games short of an official MLB season as it pertains to numbers.
CF Byron Buxton SS Jorge Polanco 2B Eddie Rosario 3B Miguel Sano DH Chris Colabello C Josmil Pinto 1B Dalton Hicks RF Adam Walker LF JD Williams LH SP - Taylor Rogers RH SP - Alex Meyer LH RP - Edgar Ibarra RH RP - Zach Jones Closer - Tyler Jones Add in what ever extra players you want to make (26) and tell me if its probable? http://twinsdaily.com/2350-2013-twins-minor-league-all-star-team.html
I just saw a youtube highlight video of Adam Brett Walker with the Kernels. The first short clip is an advertisement for the Kernels (be patient) and then there are 27 or 29 short highlight clips (15 - 30 seconds each) from just the Kernels home games in CR.
He truly does have incredible power. Each HR must have been over 400 feet. Must see TV.
The link "Twinkie Town" Minor League Baseball - The Top 25 Update offered a Pre-Season Top 25. I'd like to know how your post season version would now look based on this list + Non Ranked members you know of.................... 1) Miguel Sano: 2) Oswaldo Arcia: 3) Byron Buxton: 4) Alex Meyer: 5) Aaron Hicks: 6) Eddie Rosario: 7) Kyle Gibson: 8) Max Kepler: 9) Jose Berrios: 10) Trevor May: 11) Joe Benson: Who? 12) J.T. Chargois: 13) Jorge Polanco: 14) Travis Harrison: 15) Danny Santana: 16) Mason Melotakis: 17) Luke Bard: 18) Hudson Boyd: 19) Michael Tonkin: 20) Niko Goodrum: 21) Chris Herrmann: 22) Alex Wimmers: 23) DJ Baxendale: 24) Levi Michael: 25) Adam Walker:
Adam Brett Walker II is the first player in the MiLB this season to reach 100 RBI. After his sac fly on Monday - he stands at 103 RBI. The question is: Can he break the CR Kernels Franchise record with 20 games remaining?
Where will his potential record setting season rank in terms of Twins prospect performances over the years?
How does Walker drop out of the Twins Prospect Rankings?
Leads the Midwest League or Top 3 Ranking in: HRs / RBIs / Slg% / OPS% / TBs / & Runs.
Walker gets jumped over by this years 3rd rounder who is only 2 months younger (Turner) and in Rookie ball. He is the 7th ranked guy on his own on team? and still behind 2 guys who have yet to pitch this season (Bard & Chargois)?
Am I the only one who finds this just wrong? http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/news/prospects/index.jsp?c_id=min
Adam Brett Walker II and Jonathan Murphy played next to each other in the OF @ Jacksonville University (FL) but came up short in terms of an ASUN title. The duo is definitely doing thier part to lead the CR Kernels to a second half divisional title. Murphy is also an exceptional outfielder (possibly best) according to manager Jake Mauer. Murphy .350+ BA Walker 21 HRs and 85 RBI
I was just discussung this with friends in regards to - Adam Brett Walker II:
Through college and his professional career - he is 51 for 52 in stolen bases.
College - 40 for 41 SBs (Division 1 Jacksonville University) Professional - 4 for 4 (Elizabethton 2012 regular season) / 3 for 3 (6 playoff games) / 4 for 4 (Cedar Rapids 2013 regular season).
That's a 98% success rate in Stolen Bases over the last 5 years. That's right: I said 98% success rate . Let this man Run
Not just a power hitter (.264 ISO in 2013 and 51 for 52 in SBs over 5 years) - High Baseball IQ - WINNER -- Let this man Run. He would have to get thrown out an awful lot to bring down his success rate. 100% as a pro
This is a very well done Kernels Promo. It would make me want to go to a game or two. That being said - I wondered what are some of the other affiliate promos out there? Post your teams promo link and lets see what affiliate does the best job of creating a buzz. What are your opinions on the following promos?
Josh Burris last game experience involved a game tying HR in the bottom of the 9th and an extra inning Walk Off Grand Slam (Elizabethton 2012 Championship Game). In his first game of the 2013 season - Burris experiences a game with a crazy and similar ending. http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130427&content_id=45998386&fext=.jsp&vkey=recap&sid=t492
I am curious as to who - each of you see as breakout "Players to Watch" at each minor league level.
Elizabethton - Besides new 2013 draft prospects - I see Joshua Burris as the player who should have moved up a level and as the player who will still impress. Cedar Rapids - Adam Brett Walker was Top 5 in Appalachain League in HRs (1st)- Runs Scored (4th) - RBIs (4th) - Total Bases (5th) - Triples (tied with 3rd). He is my stat line prospect for the MWL in 2013. If he controls his SO totals (2nd) - the upside could be off the charts. Fort Myers - DJ Baxendale is one of the best pitchers in the system. He like Matt Tomshaw, have the ability to throw strikes and still keep batters off balanced. I'm going with whichever guy has the most innings pitched at this level. New Brittan - Danny Santana has the flare and ability to become a solid SS in our system. This is the year he takes his game to a new level (Defensively & Offensively). Nate Roberts is my "2nd" choice if he ends up in NB. Rochester - Chris Herrmann becomes the catcher of the future with his performance this season. He will put together a complete season on both sides of the ball. He will slug closer to .500 this year and improve on his already impressive double totals and run scored totals (100+ this season).
How do they function? Do they decide if they are playing randomly verse other teams? How do fans get to plan for seeing minor league games? Don't games start this week? How far will I have to travel if going to away games? etc. etc.?
Why so late when other teams are having their games posted?
