Levine practically apologized for being unable to complete a trade in the Strib last week. The Twins “have placed a lot of [waiver] claims on players we think can help our team,” Levine said, but have not been able to negotiate a trade. “It’s not for lack of effort on our part,” he added. “We’ve already pivoted once in this process, and I think we demonstrated a willingness to respond to the way the team is performing. … We have the support of ownership to do it, and we’re going to continue to be creative and aggressive the rest of the season to help our team.” Sounds like they want to add a player(s). I assume bullpen, but we can't say for sure I guess. In any case, its another reason to over-prepare before the season starts, because you can't necessarily swing a trade later, especially in August.

Article: MIN 9, DET 4: WE COMIN’!

Hit probability is a function of exit velo and launch angle correct? Seems to be missing a third variable: horizontal angle. Balls hit right at you are harder to gauge depth wise than ones hit to either side. That was a damn tough catch. edit: Kepler's too. Same issue. What was Statcast's hit probability on that one?- 23 replies

From the stretch he'd have to step off the rubber before firing home. I'm 99% sure, maybe an ump (Spinowner) could pipe up to confirm.

This is the double edged sword that is Eddie Rosario's aggressiveness. Love it. Even if he doesn't draw a balk, maybe he gets the pitcher to abandon his offspeed stuff for fear of the PB. That said, all the pitcher had to do was wait for Eddie to run up the line then step off and run directly at him. Probably Eddie wins a foot race back to third but maybe his brain freezes long enough to tag him.

Article: Can The Twins Win With Dozier And Mauer?
Willihammer replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is a common refrain around here but I'm not sure. Polanco is batting .581. Goodrum and Blankenhorn are organizational filler. You could plan for Gordon in 2019, but who takes over SS? And, if the trade price is low for above average second baseman, so would the FA price, methinks. Keeping Dozier for a few years after he hits FA could easily be the best option organizationally and not that expensive. -

You do wonder if Dozier beats out that high throw if the Twins hadn't traded Garcia http://www.twincities.com/2017/08/03/john-shipley-twins-are-ticked-they-should-be-says-derek-falvey/ Although you wonder if he would run that lackadaisically under a different manager too. Gardy in particular would have throw a fit.

They get injuries every year. That is the normal course of business for a baseball team. Last year it was Nolasco. Before that Santana was a PED suspension without pay. Morneau, Mauer, etc. Injuries to Hughes and Perkins in 2017 don't seem so far out of line with normal baseball ops that they should be accounted for in a special way. The 2018 payroll will be determined by prior year revenues, as it always is.
