    So far, a lot of people are buying the hype, because, let's face it, that is about all there is so far. Maybe his velocity will go back up, and he finds control, and he starts striking people out, and he can make at least two of his slider and curve and change and sinker flash and become plus pitches. I sure hope so.

    Is there a meaning there for this spelling? Does it mean something I am not getting? I figured it was just a mistake the first time I saw it, but since it is repeated, I am curious.

    Yes, I understand that. Perhaps Milone was pitching with a tumor in his neck the whole time, and he didn't know it because it never bothered him. Ervin Santana has been pitching with a partial tear in his medial collateral ligament for years. If he has a horrible season and finally has surgery..... Hey, I get that the tumor could have been a reason his performance had a meltdown. The way he has pitched and the declining velocity trend didn't change much these last 3 years, except for the time on the Twins. Certainly the results did for his short stint on the Twins so far. Scott Diamond looked OK for a bit , too. I see Milone blocking what we need instead of helping this team. We will see. Timing will be everything for him. He will have probably have some chances.

    Watching Milone pitch for the Twins, it is almost impossible for me to consider his performance with Oakland ("Over the next two-and-a-half seasons with the A’s, he went 31-22 with a 3.84 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP"). The 6.5 mph difference between his fastball and change up, and his declining fastball average now down to 86.6 mph, I have to feel that Billy Beane knew what he was doing, and using Milone for calling him up for a spot start from Rochester in an emergency is his only up side for this team.

    Great point. It is kind and convenient for some to just consider May's good outings in the show, shine that pile, and say he has earned another chance to be the 5th starter. Nolasco would like one to do that for him, too. But the fact is, I have a really hard time not considering that he gave up 40 earned runs in 45.2 innings pitched in the 10 games he appeared in. All the innings pitched count. I don't see how that earns anything yet, but would still like to see him get the first opening after Meyer gets his first opportunity.

    May doesn't make any prospect lists except fan based prospect lists. Has his time in the show made him unqualified, and TD and TT and other Twins' bloggers just treat him as an exception?

    One would think that that would also be a requirement of someone who plays 1st base, which is also a traditional position that power is often expected. A high OBP can be a consolation to tradition. Here's to hoping Rosario finds one or the other, then.

    ...... and it is worth absolutely nothing. These guys are wrong so many more times than they are right. He could be right, but no team would not try him as a starter first. Hey....... John Smoltz's furture was in the bullpen, too, but not until several years as a starter.

    Exactly. IF that happens, there are several starters to replace him for a spell. Then you can try those with less talent. And Berrios could be a real surprise before you know it.

    I would say definitely. But with Perkins' contract, and Burdi leading a slew of slinging arms that were drafted to relieve and could be ready even by the middle of this year, (and isn't every team hoping to strike gold and find the next Craig Kimbrel), why waste a guy with the pitches necessary to start. I can't see why you would mess with him at this point, and even temporarily have him pitch out of the bullpen. I mean, he was softhanded last year for a reason, and it wasn't to have him pitch out of the bullpen. Why even go that route now? If he is ready out of spring training, why waste anymore time? See if he can compete and start right out of the gate. He can always go to the pen. If he looks ready, like Gibson looked ready, and you want to field your best team......... what are you waiting for? For Meyer to turn 26?

    Meyer is 25 and healthy. Time to start him in the show. Period. Anything else is just wasting an asset that you traded a fine center fielder for. Patience is highly overrated. Same with walk rate for a lights out pitcher.

    “I feel bad, like I’ve taken money from the Twins. It’s been frustrating. You play this game to play, and compete, and be successful and do it well. Obviously that hasn’t happened.” And it looks like another $5.5 million this year. At least he is not fooling himself.

    I don't think one has to necessarily "earn" it. Not is this day and age. Nolasco hasn't earned it. Pelfrey hasn't earned it. Both got the job regardless, and they even showed that they earned the bench or released. For that matter, Santana hasn't earned it and Hughes hadn't when he got his job. Apples and oranges, and not the same thing, I know. When a best prospect is ready by age and experience, it is time, especially when you are coming off four 92 plus loss seasons. Meyer could earn it in The Show the first month of April and never look back....... but not if you don't let him have the opportunity. Seeing him pitch..... to me, he has earned it and should have been up last year. He might have even walked less batters than May!

    Trade Span for Meyer and then consider soft tossing Milone for a spot when Meyer is ready? May will probably be the one to end up in the pen for his career, anyway. How about Meyer the 5th starter (who probably has the best stuff on the staff) and let May work from the pen. Milone can be ready when the injury comes or Nolasco totally washes out. Berrios might even be ready by then. Meyer doesn't need to get any older in AAA. He is my choice.

    If the batter doesn't hit the ball........ it doesn't matter what defense is behind the pitcher. Nolasco's whole career is a sad story of selected stats used for making the case that "he should be better than he actually did." Except he just never was. I hope this year he actually does better than the specialty stats show he should have. Way better. Trade actual performance for virtual analysis. And get rid of that persistent crotch itch. Maybe that will help. And let me add my thanks and kudos for the fine article.

    When you get lit up for a .316 average against (and it was even worse most of the season), things can get out of hand quickly, and did. Nolasco makes the whole league a .316 hitter. That is scary.

    Laudner gave him the Papelbon grab the junk gesture instead - an offense that didn't get you suspended then. Or maybe he didn't mean it that way? Another question.

    Reading all this made me feel like I was being forced to watch The View. Oh, the drama. I like all the walks, though. And the return to the lineup on Wednesday with a homer and 2 RBI. And "Vargas’ personality and/or attitude have not been issues with the Twins and he is well-respected in Puerto Rico where he recently was honored in December by the Sports Journalists Association of Puerto Rico as the best major league player from the island in 2014." Sometimes managers need to get tutored by Phil Jackson.

    I would put Meyer at number 3, leave Berrios at 4, and Burdi at number 5 for my top 5. I always think far too much importance is given to first round picks even though they are years away from the show..... years to fail just as much as years to develop, and history shows way more fail or wash out with injuries than develop. When a prospect is within a season of the show in their development, they become a much more important prospect, have less opportunity to wash out in the minors, and have a much higher value in my opinion. Both Stewart and Gordon still fall in that strata.

    Describing uniforms with audio only............ what an idea. I can't wait until your swimsuit edition. Nothing like hearing a visual. Oh....... and is calling someone a dick worse than calling them a prick?..... or the same, or not so bad?
