RED WINGS REPORT Pawtucket 1 @ Rochester 5 Box Score Some early run support and a strong pitching performance from the whole of the Red Wings staff kept the game well in hand all night. “Starter” Nick Anderson pitched the first inning, scoreless, giving up a hit, a walk, and striking out a pair, before being replaced by Zack Littell. Littell went 5 2/3 innings, struck out six, walked none, gave up six hits and also kept Pawtucket off the board. Andrew Vasquez gave up a run over 1 1/3, but the Red Wings were ahead 5-1 when Ryan Eades came in to pitch the ninth. Eades gave up a hit and struck out a batter in his full inning of work. Willians Astudillo was 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, two runs scored and an RBI. Kennys Vargas stayed hot, 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a pair of strikeouts. Jon Kemmer added a pair of hits as well, 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and a strikeout. Nick Gordon was 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout. Gordon is hitting just .208/.251/.281 in 88 games for Rochester. CHATTANOOGA CHATTER Chattanooga 4 @ Montgomery 2 (10 innings) Box Score The Lookouts were down 0-2 heading to the top of the ninth inning before putting a couple runs on the board to extend the game to extra innings, and then scored another pair of runs in the top of the 10th to win the game on a Andy Wilkins two-run home run. The inning before, Luis Arraez picked up the other two RBIs. The rest of the roster had just four hits and while Brent Rooker has crushed the Southern League and heading into Thursday game he was in the top three in RBIs (1st, 77), doubles (T-1st, 31), home runs (2nd, 22), hits (2nd, 122), extra-base hits (2nd, 57), total bases (2nd, 227) and slugging percentage (3rd, .490), he struggled on Thursday. Rooker was 0-for-3 with a walk. On the bump, Sean Poppen went five innings and gave up just a run on three hits and three walks and struck out six. Cody Stashak saw his scoreless inning streak end at 18 giving up a run in the first of his two innings of work. Austin Adams earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief and Williams Ramirez earned his seventh save of the year with a nice clean 10th inning. MIRACLE MATTERS Fort Myers 1 @ Palm Beach 6 Box Score Thursday night was the rubber match in the three game set between Palm Beach and Fort Myers and the last game of year between the two. Fort Myers lost the previous three series this year and are now 4-11 against them. If the Miracle make playoffs they will face Palm Beach. Going into Thursday’s game Alex Kirilloff leads all of MiLB in hits (164) and XBH (67) but went 0-for-4 and only added to his strikeout total with two more on Thursday night. Ryan Costello was 2-for-4 with a solo home run, and Jose Miranda had a pair of hits as well, 2-for-4. On the bump, Bryan Sammons went 4 2/3 innings and gave up five runs on eight hits, and two walks. Colton Davis held off Palm Beach for 1 1/3 innings before Alex Robinson gave up a home run to the only batter he faced. Kevin Marnon finished the game with two scoreless innings. KERNELS NUGGETS Cedar Rapids 4 @ Beloit 5 Box Score Cedar Rapids had a 4-3 lead after six and a half innings but Beloit put up two in the bottom of the seventh to take the lead for good. Trey Cabbage had a pair of hits as part of his 2-for-3 night that include a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Andrew Bechtold had a pair of hits and RBIs, going 2-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts as well. Starter Melvi Acosta gave up three runs over 4 1/3 innings on seven hits but he did manage five strikeouts. Jose Martinez was tagged with the loss giving up those two late runs. He pitched 2 2/3 innings and gave up two runs on three hits and two walks. He struck out a pair. Moises Gomez pitched the eighth and gave up a pair of hits but no runs. ELIZABETHTON TWINS TALK Greenville 7 @ Elizabethton 1 Box Score In Elizabethton the hometown Twins committed three errors and gave up six runs in the last two innings to spoil what had been a very tight ballgame. Jean Carlos Arias was 2-for-4 with a strikeout and Ricky De La Torre was 2-for-3 and only one other batter had a hit, Yunior Severino who was 1-for-4 with a solo home run. As a team the Twins had just five hits and one walk against 10 strikeouts. Andrew Cabezas pitched well over 5 1/3 innings giving up just a single run, a single hit, two walks and he struck out seven. Tanner Howell went 2 2/3 innings and gave up four runs on three hits and two walks. Juan Gamez was tagged with a couple of unearned runs in the ninth inning. Rochester and Chattanooga won laughers, Cedar Rapids split a double-header that included the suspended game from Wednesday night, Fort Myers won a close one, the GCL Twins snuck a win out and also Elizabethton was smoked 0-9. Can’t win them all.Transactions – Robbie Grossman assigned to Rochester on rehab assignment, Shane Carrier sent to GCL Twins on rehab assignment RED WINGS REPORT Rochester 15 @ Toledo 2 Box Score Rochester blasted Toledo 15-2 thanks in part to five early runs and a big eight-spot in the sixth inning to really break things open. The Wings offense was on fire, collecting 19 hits including four doubles and three home runs. Seven Rochester players had multiple hits. Jon Kemmer was 4-for-5 with a double, a home run, three runs scored and a strike out to lead all Rochester players. Just behind Kemmer was Kennys Vargas, 3-for-5 with a home run, five RBIs, a walk and two runs scored. LaMonte Wade had the other Red Wings home run as part of a 2-for-5 night that included three RBIs and a run scored. Byron Buxton was 2-for-6 with a double, two runs scored and two strike outs. Starter John Curtiss went just 1.2 innings before being replaced by Fernando Romero. Curtiss went 1.2 innings, gave up a pair of hits and two walks, striking out one. CHATTANOOGA CHATTER Chattanooga 10 @ Mississippi 1 Box Score Chattanooga stomped Mississippi, scoring five runs in the third inning to race out to a big lead, adding to it with three more in the sixth inning, and added two more in the ninth after giving up a run in the bottom half of the eighth. The Lookouts were powered by the bottom of their lineup with the 7-8-9 hitters accounting for seven of the club’s eleven hits. Luis Arraez was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and a pair of RBIs as well as a walk and a strike out. Jimmy Kerrigan led the club with three hits in five at bats. Jordan Gore was 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored, an RBI and he struck out twice. Brent Rooker was 1-for-5 with a single, a run scored, and two RBIs but stuck out three times. Starter Dietrich Enns went 6.0 innings, gave up just five hits, walked one and struck out eight. Williams Ramirez gave up a run over 2.0 innings and struck out five. MIRACLE MATTERS Charlotte 1 @ Fort Myers 2 Box Score Fort Myers scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fourth inning and held on to defeat Charlotte 2-1 in front of the home crowd. The Miracle are now just a game under .500 on the year at 60-61. Michael Pineda started, as he continues to come back from Tommy John surgery, going 3.0 innings. He gave up two hits, a run and struck out one. Pineda left with the game tied and earned no decision. Kevin Marnon pitched 2.0 scoreless innings and earned his first win of the year while striking out a pair of batters. Andro Cutura pitched the final 4.0 innings. He earned a save, gave up just one hit and struck out three. The Miracle offense picked up six hits, led by Jose Miranda who was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. No other Miracle batter had multiple hits, but Alex Kirilloff and Ben Rortvedt made their lone hit count, each had a double. KERNELS NUGGETS Peoria 4 @ Cedar Rapids 2 (Game 1, Continuation of Yesterday’s Suspended Game) Box Score The Kernels and the Chiefs each collected nine hits, but the Chiefs hung a four-spot on the boar in the top of the eighth to win the contest. Ryan Jeffers was 3-for-5 with a run scored and a strike out, and Ben Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a run scored, two doubles, an RBI and a walk. No other Kernels had multiple hits. On the mound, starter Randy Dobnak went 1.0 inning and gave up one hit and one strike out. Blayne Enlow went 5.0 innings, he gave up four hits, three walks, and struck out three. Calvin Faucher pitched the final three innings, he gave up four runs on four hits, walked three and struck out one. Peoria 0 @ Cedar Rapids 4 (Game 2, 7 innings) Box Score The Kernels earned a split in this double-header of sorts, winning the nightcap 4-0. ELIZABETHTON TWINS TALK Elizabethton 0 @ Bluefield 9 Box Score Elizabethton managed just three hits in a 6-0 loss on Thursday night. The Twins didn’t help themselves out with four errors, but none lead to any Bluefield runs. The Twins picked up one hit a piece from Lean Marrero, Yunior Severino and pinch hitter Albee Weiss. Twins starter Tyler Palm was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs on four hits over 4.2 innings. Palm walked two and struck out three. Blair Lakso came on in relief and pitched 2.1 scoreless innings and Seth Pinkerton pitched the eighth inning and gave up a pair of runs, on four hits. He walked one and struck out two. GCL TWINS TAKES GCL Twins 2 @ GCL Orioles 0 Box Score A very strong performance from the Twins pitching staff, recording 13 strike outs and walking just three while holding the Orioles scoreless. Prelander Berroa started and went 5.0 innings of one hit baseball, walking three and striking out nine. Michael Montero and Niklas Rimmel each pitched 2.0 additional innings of scoreless baseball keeping the shutout intact. In the batters box, the Twins managed just five hits, but turned hits into early runs, scoring one in the second and another in the fourth. Come check out what else happened across the minors.RED WINGS REPORT Toledo 3 @ Rochester 14 Box Score The Red Wings scored four in the first, three in the second, and four more in the third, racing off to a 11-1 lead, and then put a few more runs on the board over the next several innings to win the game 14-3. As a team the Red wings had just 11 hits but FIVE of them were home runs. The Red Wings were led by a 3-for-5 night from Tyler Austin. Austin had a triple, a home run, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Taylor Motter, Kennys Vargas, Jon Kemmer and Jeremy Hazelbaker also added long balls of their own. Nick Gordon continues his rough stretch, going 0-for-3 with a pair of walks. On the bump, Stephen Gonsalves went six innings, gave up just three hits and three walks, striking out nine. He gave up three runs, all earned, and picked up his eighth victory of the year. Jake Reed pitched two hitless innings, keeping the Mud Hens off of the board and striking out four of the seven batters he faced. CHATTANOOGA CHATTER Jackson 2 @ Chattanooga 1 Box Score Down 2-0 in the bottom of the ninth inning the Lookouts pushed one run across on a Mitchell Kranson double and left the tying run on second base. The Lookouts managed just five hits, two of them doubles, one each from Mitchell Kranson (1-for-4) and Brian Navarreto (1-for-4). Overall the Lookouts were pretty well shut down by Jackson starter Taylor Widener who struck out nine batters and didn’t walk anyone. Lookouts pitching wasn’t bad, giving up just a pair of runs, one each from Tyler Wells (6.0 IP) and one from Ryan Eades (2.0 IP). Devin Smeltzer pitched the ninth, keeping the game within reach with a scoreless frame. MIRACLE MATTERS Fort Myers 4 @ Florida 3 Box Score Fort Myers needed a run in the top of the ninth inning to keep the game alive, down 2-3. Caleb Hamilton singled to start the inning and then took second on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt and advanced to third on a wild pitch before eventually scoring on a Royce Lewis triple to tie the game and send things to extra innings. In the top of the 10th, with Taylor Grzlelakowski as the free running on second base to start the frame, Jose Miranda was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Alex Kirilloff gounded into a double play but Grzlelakowski advanced to third base and eventually scored on a wild pitch, enough to give the Lookouts the win after Ryan Mason kept Florida off the board in the bottom of the frame. Royce Lewis was 3-for-4, including that game tying triple, with an RBI, a run scored, a walk, a stolen base and a strike out. Jose Miranda had a 2-for-4 night and Travis Blankenhorn was 2-for-4 with a double. Brusdar Graterol went 5 2/3 innings and left with no decision, giving up two runs on six hits, walking one and striking out four. KERNELS NUGGETS Cedar Rapids 9 @ Clinton 4 Box Score Cedar Rapids used a five-run fifth inning to put Thursday night’s game away. Michael Helmen was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a double. Ben Rodriguez was 2-5 with a run scored, a double, two RBIs and two Ks. Lastly, Jacob Pearson was 2-4 with two runs scored, a double, a walk and a strike out, capping off the list of Kernels with multiple hits. Ryan Jeffers’ only hit was a solo home run. He walked two and struck out four. Jacob Blank earned a hold for his two scoreless innings and Jach Neff closed off the game with a scoreless ninth. The Twins picked up just four hits, but Ricky De La Torre had half of them going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. The other Twins run came from a solo home run from Colton Burns, part of a 1-for-1 night that included the home run, two runs scored, and two walks. GCL TWINS TAKES GCL Twins 5 @ GCL Rays 2 Box Score The GCL Twins rode a strong start from Kai-Wei Teng to a 5-2 victory on Thursday afternoon. Teng pitched 5 2/3 innings, gave up a pair of runs and stuck out nine batters while walking none. Frandy Torres went 1 1/3 innings gave up no hits, walked one and struck out a pair. Erik Cha earned his second save of the year, this one the six out version, with two innings of scoreless pitching. He gave up a hit, a walk, and struck out four. The Twins spread their seven hits around and just Austin Hale (2-for-4) had more than one hit. All five runs came from the bottom of the Twins order with Alberoni Nunez, Austin Hale, Charles Mack and Samuel Vasquez accounting for all of the runs scored from the 6-7-8-9 spots. MIRACLE MATTERS Fort Myers 9 @ Dayton 8 Box Score Alex Kirilloff extended his hitting streak to ten games, going 3-for-5 with a run scored and a pair of RBIs as the designated hitter, helping the Miracle win an 11-inning squeaker. The Miracle scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning to take the lead, but Daytona scored another run in the bottom half of the inning to force extras. Each team scored two runs in the 10th to keep the game alive, and Fort Myers took the lead for good scoring a run in the top of the 11th on a fielding error. Royce Lewis was 2-for-7 with a pair of runs scored. Taylor Grzelakowski had a huge night, 5-for-6 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Ben Rodriguez had a pair of hits as well as part of his 2-for-6 night with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. While not terribly effective as a unit, giving up eight runs, the Miracle pitching staff did just enough to guide them to a win. Griffin Jax pitched the first four innings giving up five runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking none. Alex Robinson pitched two and gave up just one one, striking out four. Adam Bray pitched two more innings, giving up no hits, he walked one and struck out four. Ryan Mason earned a blown save and the win with two innings of three-run baseball. Colton Davis kept the Tortugas off the board in the eleventh inning earning his first save of the year. The Kernels were led by Michael Davis who was 2-for-3 with two home runs and a walk. He scored two runs and contributed three RBIs. Jared Akins also had a pair of hits and three RBIs of his own. Starter Tyler Watson went seven innings and gave up just one run on three hits. He walked one and struck out nine. E-Town managed just three hits, one from Yunior Severino, one from Alex Robles, and one from Tyler Webb. None went for extra bases. As a team the Twins were just 3-for-30 with 3 walks and 5 strike outs. Starter Andrew Cabezas went six innings and gave up just two runs, one earned, scattering four hits. GCL TWINS TAKES GCL Rays 3 @ GCL Twins 1 Box Score The Twins fell behind early and couldn’t muster enough runs against the GCL Rays, falling 3-1. The GCL Twins managed just four hits, one each from Yeison Perez, Janigson Villalobos, Christian Cavaness and Estamy Urena. Twins started Landon Leach went five innings, giving up just a pair of hits and an unearned run, but left with the game tied and earned a no-decision. Just skip ahead to the Kernels report, because ooo boy, fireworks! Trey Cabbage and Bailey Ober were the stars of the day, but there were a few other players who had big nights for Cedar Rapids.Transactions Taylor Motter promoted to Rochester from Chattanooga, Rochester’s Luke Bard activated from the DL, and Chattanooga’s Todd Van Steensel activated from the DL. RED WINGS REPORT Rochester 2, Scranton/WB 1 Box Score Coming off of three-straight extra innings games, the Red Wings were happy to get this one done in regulation, scoring the go-ahead run in the seventh inning and hanging on for a narrow 2-1 victory. Thursday’s victory was the Wings’ 27th road win, the most in the International League. Byron Buxton was 0-for-2 with a strike out, and was forced out of this one due to injury. Nick Gordon was 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs and a strike out, providing all of the firepower. Starter Adalberto Mejia moved to 5-2 with six innings of one-run baseball. He gave up just three hits, struck out three and walked three. Trevor May pitched an inning of relief sending down all three batters he faced. Gabriel Moya earned a six-out save, giving up a hit and striking out two. CHATTANOOGA CHATTER Chattanooga 7, Montgomery 6 Box Score Chattanooga had the game well in hand, leading 7-1 after just three innings and their lead slowly trickled almost all the way away and they barely held on for a 7-6 win, including a pretty scary ninth inning that saw Montgomery put three runs on the board with the game-tying run on second base before they were retired. The Lookouts scored seven runs on just five hits and Ryan Walker committed three errors, one throwing and two fielding, but still managed to win. No hitter had more than one hit, but Ryan Walker made up for his defensive miscues with one swing, sending a 3-run home run out of the park in the third inning. Walker was 1-for-3 with a home run, a run scored, four RBIs, and a walk. Six pitchers all helped get the Lookouts a win on Thursday night, with Paco Rodriguez picking up the win with two innings of scoreless relief. Lewis Thorpe started the game and went 1 2/3 innings giving up an unearned run, no hits, and striking out a pair. Ryan Eades came in next and went 2 1/3 innings giving up a pair of hits and another unearned run. Todd Van Steensel fresh off the DL walked a pair and struck out a pair in an inning of work. Ryne Harper gave up four runs on four hits in 1 2/3 innings and was replaced by Cody Stashak who earned a save despite giving up a run-scoring double before getting the final out of the game. MIRACLE MATTERS Palm Beach 4, Fort Myers 2 Box Score The Miracle dropped the last game of their four-game set against Palm Beach and lost the series three games to one. The Miracle managed just five hits and three walks against 10 strikeouts and only took four at-bats with runners in scoring position. No one had more than one hit, and Mark Contreras (1-for-4) had the team’s only extra-base hit, a double. Alex Kirilloff was 0-for-4, as was Lewin Diaz (who had a worse line as it also included three strikeouts). Miguel Sano was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and two runs scored. Starter Tyler Wells went six innings and gave up four runs on five hits. He walked two, struck out six and gave up two home runs. Ryan Mason (1.0 IP), Colton Davis (1.2 IP) and Alex Robinson (0.1 IP) kept Palm Beach off the board the rest of the way, but their bats couldn’t dig them out of an early hole. KERNELS NUGGETS Cedar Rapids 6, Fort Wayne 2 Box Score Thursday night belongs to the Cedar Rapids Kernels. The Kernels had Trey Cabbage absolutely destroying baseballs. Cabbage was 4-for-4 with a run scored, a home run, and two RBIs. Meanwhile, on the mound, Bailey Ober turned in 6 2/3 innings, scattering five hits, giving up no runs and STRIKING OUT TEN! On top of those two stellar performances, Akil Baddoo had a pair of hits on a 2-for-5 night that included a double and two RBIs, and Robby Rinn added a pair of hits as well. In the bullpen Jose Martinez threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings, and Jared Finkel gave up a pair of runs over a full inning of work, but he had a six-run lead to work with and kept the victory intact. ELIZABETHTON TWINS TALK Elizabethton 7, Johnson City 2 Box Score Tyler Webb was 4-for-5 with a run scored and a pair of RBIs, Alex Robles was 3-for-5 with an RBI, and Michael Helmen was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a triple. Starter Dietrich Enns cruised into the fifth inning but did not finish, pitching 4.2 innings. Enns was charged with all three runs (two earned), he gave up six hits, did not issue any walks, and struck out eight. Sam Clay came in to close out the fifth and pitched the sixth as well, 1 1/3 IP. Clay did not allow any hits or runs. He walked two and struck out two. Williams Ramirez gave up a hit over two innings, striking out three and walking one. Cody Stashak gave up a hit in an otherwise clean 1 IP. The Lookouts had chances on Thursday night but were just 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position, stranding eight. Brent Rooker was the only hitter to have multiple hits, and the only hitter to have an extra-base hit. Rooker was 2-for-4 with a double and a strikeout. MIRACLE MATTERS Dunedin 2 @ Fort Myers 1 – GAME 1 Box Score In game one of a double-header the Miracle managed just three hits and a run, falling to Dunedin and starter Patrick Murphy who pitched a complete game (seven IP). Alex Kirilloff and Miguel Sano were both 0-for-3. Travis Blankenhorn provided the lone run support in the first game, going 1-for-3 with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Ervin Santana, still rehabbing, was tagged with the loss, giving up three hits and two runs over 4 innings. He struck out two and gave up a home run. He was replaced by Adam Bay who held Dunedin scoreless over 3 innings. Bray struck out four and gave up a pair of hits. MIRACLE MATTERS Dunedin 1 @ Fort Myers 0 – GAME 2 Box Score It was not much better for the Miracle in the nightcap as they again managed three hits against Dunedin, but this time failing to score any runs. Miguel Sano picked up two of the three hits going 2-for-3 with a strike out. Alex Kirilloff was again held hitless, going 0-for-3. Charlie Barnes pitched well enough to win, taking a scoreless game into the seventh inning, but without any run support at all he was tagged with a loss to fall to 3-5. Ryan Mason pitched the last 2/3 of an inning, giving up a pair of hits but keeping Dunedin off of the board. KERNELS NUGGETS Wisconsin 1 @ Cedar Rapids 8 Box Score 2,520 fans in Cedar Rapids were treated to an excellent start from Bailey Ober. Ober pitched 7.0 innings, gave up just three hits and one run while striking out TWELVE. Ober’s 12-strikeout game was the first for the Kernels in more than two years. Jared Finkel finished the game for Ober and the Kernels, pitching 2 innings of hitless baseball. Finkel walked one and struck out one. The Kernels scored eight runs on just seven hits and three walks thanks to some timely hitting with runners in scoring position. Jared Akins was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs. Jordan Gore was 2-for-3 with a three-run home run. Royce Lewis was 1-for-3 with an RBI, a walk and a strikeout. GCL TWINS TAKES GCL Orioles 1 @ GCL Twins 2 Box Score The GCL Twins walked off the GCL Orioles with some good old-fashioned small ball. After Alberoni Nunez walked to lead off the inning, Agustin Marte bunted him over to second. The Orioles then intentionally walked Estamy Urena to keep the force out in play, and then accidentally walked Gabe Snyder to load the bases. Austin Hale was the hero, singling home the winning run! Hale was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a strikeout. No Twins player had multiple hits and there were no extra base hits. Before Hale’s ninth inning single with the bases loaded, the Twins were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and stranded 13 runners. The Twins used four pitchers to win a tight game on Thursday with starter Kai-Wei Teng going 5.0 innings, giving up just two hits and striking out seven. Zach Featherstone pitched a scoreless six, but walked the bases loaded and only escaped thanks to a couple of strikeouts. Erik Cha pitched 2.0 innings, gave up just a single unearned run on no hits and no walks. J.T. Perez earned the win thanks to that ninth inning run, he pitched 1 inning, gave up one hit and a walk, striking one out. While the Big League team continues to slide further out of contention, let’s take a look at how things are going down on the farm.Transactions – None RED WINGS REPORT Lehigh Valley 6 @ Rochester 7 Box Score The Red Wings went ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning but then gave up two runs in the third and fourth, and another in the fifth falling behind 5-3. The Red Wings tied the game in the bottom of the sixth before falling behind in the top of the next inning. In the bottom of the eighth, Cameron Rupp homered to tie the game and then Gregorio Petit struck out but advanced to first on a wild pitch. Petit would eventually come around to score on a Nick Gordon line drive to put the Wings ahead for good. Kennys Vargas was 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles and a strikeout. The only other Wings hitter with multiple hits was Byron Buxton, 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a strike out. Giving up six runs means that the pitching staff wasn’t great, but they did enough to help the team win. Start Kohl Stewart made it through 6.0 innings but gave up 10 hits and five runs, all earned. He walked one and struck out six. Nick Anderson came in for 2.0 innings and got the W thanks to those late runs the Red Wings scored, even though he gave up a solo home run, the only hit he allowed. Alan Busenitz earned his third save of the year for Rochester with a scoreless ninth inning. CHATTANOOGA CHATTER Chattanooga 3 @ Tennessee 5 Box Score After the lead swapped hands a couple of times in the first few innings, the Smokies pulled ahead in the fifth inning for good to drop the Lookouts a game below .500, 39-40. The Lookouts managed just seven hits, one apiece from everyone except Brent Rooker, Jaylin Davis, and pinch hitter Sean Miller. Andy Wilkins made the most of his hit, a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to get the Lookouts close enough for a bloop and a blast to tie the game. Anthony Marzi was tagged with the loss, giving up three runs on five hits over 5.0 innings. He walked two and didn’t strike anyone out. Paco Rodriguez gave up a run in the sixth inning, he gave up a hit, struck out one, and walked three in 1.0 innings of work. Todd Van Steensel pitched the final two frames, giving up a run on a hit and two walks. He struck out two. MIRACLE MATTERS Lakeland 11 @ Fort Myers 3 Box Score The Miracle gave up 19 hits and four walks, falling to Lakeland 11-3 on Sunday, dropping the Miracle to 34-44 on the season. Alex Kirilloff was 2-for-4 with a strike- out and Miguel Sano was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run. Ben Rortvedt also had a pair of hits, both singles. Travis Blankenhorn was just 1-for-3 but put his lone hit over the fence. The whole of the pitching staff struggled except for Adam Bray, who pitched the final 1.2 innings and keeping the Lakeland Flying Tigers off the board. All other Miracle pitchers gave up at least two runs. Brusdar Graterol gave up five runs on nine hits in just 3.0 innings. Brady Anderson also pitched 3.0 innings and was just a bit better than Graterol, giving up four runs on seven hits. Colton Davis managed 1.1 innings and gave up two runs on three hits before turning the ball over the Bray who finished things up. KERNELS NUGGETS Cedar Rapids 8 @ Burlington 0 Box Score Bryan Sammons turned in the best pitching performance of the night across the Twins affiliates. Sammons went 6.0 innings, struck out six, gave up six hits, walked zero, and kept the Burlington Bees off the board. Jose Martinez was the first man up in relief, going 2.0 innings. He gave up three hits, struck out three and kept the shutout intact. Calvin Faucher finished the game for the Kernels, giving up one hit in 1.0 inning. The Kernels scored eight runs on Sunday, five in the third and three more in the seventh. The Kernels actually scored more runs (8) than they had hits (7), and were outhit by the Bees who had 10 hits. Akil Baddoo led off for the Kernels and was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, and two runs scored. CHATTANOOGA CHATTER Biloxi 7 @ Chattanooga 2 Box Score Friday’s game started with a 2 hour and 30 minute rain delay, what a treat for the 4,009 in attendance at AT&T field. Lookouts starter Omar Bencomo did not come out of the gate well, giving up four runs on five hits and didn’t make it to the second inning, pitching just the first, and the Lookouts never really got back into the game. The Lookouts burned through a number of bullpen arms to get through the next eight innings. Andrew Vasquez had two scoreless innings, another two scoreless from Cody Stashak and Sam Clay. Tyler Jay gave up three runs on four hits in the eighth and then Todd Van Steensel finished the game with a scoreless ninth. The Lookouts had eight hits and three doubles, but couldn’t really get any rallies going, failing to put up any crooked numbers. Brent Rooker led the team going 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. The Lookouts really struggled with the bats, racking up FOURTEEN strikeouts against just two walks. MIRACLE MATTERS Fort Myers 14 @ Bradenton 7 Box Score Everyone in the Miracle lineup was punishing Bradenton pitching except Miguel Sano and Shane Carrier, each going hitless while the rest of the squad racked up 20 hits and 14 runs. Luis Arraez led all Miracle batters going 5-for-6 with four runs scored, a double, a home run, an RBI and he did make an out via strikeout. Pretty solid. Mark Contreras also had a big night, 4-for-5 with three runs scored, a double and four RBIs. And Alex Kirilloff had FIVE RBIs on a 4-for-6 night with a run scored and a three-run homer. Lewin Diaz was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk. So many hits! With the batters putting up plenty of run support, the pitching didn’t need to be super sharp, and it wasn’t. Starter Tyler Wells gave up three runs in the bottom of the first inning but still picked up a win thanks to all of the hits and runs. Wells gave up six hits, just those three runs, he walked one and struck out four over six innings. He was replaced by Alex Robinson who pitched two innings and gave up another four runs before Hector Lujan came in and pitched one inning to finish the game. KERNELS NUGGETS Wisconsin 2 @ Cedar Rapids 3 Box Score The Kernels took the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning and hung on to defeat Wisconsin 3-2. Bailey Ober started for the Kernels and struck out NINE over five innings. He gave up just three hits and one run (earned) to go along with just one walk. Melvi Acosta pitched the sixth inning and gave up the lead, giving up a run on three hits. Calvin Faucher turned in a solid relief outing to take the Kernels the rest of the way, going three innings, keeping Wisconsin off the board and earning a win thanks to some late run support. That late run support came in the form of a Trey Cabbage triple, with Cabbage scoring when the next batter, David Banuelos, singled him in to put Cedar Rapids ahead for good. Cabbage was 1-for-2 with two runs scored, that triple, a walk and a strike out. Jean Carlos Arias was the only Cedar Rapids player with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with a run scored, and a double. Royce Lewis was 1-for-4 with a strike out. ELIZABETHTON TWINS TALK Elizabethton 19 @ Bristol 5 Box Score Just like the Fort Myers Miracle, the E-Town Twins scored runs in bunches. Elizabethton scored 19 runs on 19 hits and 10 walks. They had nine extra base hits – six doubles, a triple, and two home runs. Ryan Jeffers led the way going 4-for-4 with three runs scored, two doubles, an RBI and two walks to reach safely all six times he came to the plate. Alex Robles, Chris Williams, and Rickey De La Torre all had three RBIs, and Andrew Cosgrove had FOUR. RBIs for almost everyone on the roster. On the mound, the Elizabethton Twins got enough pitching to win, though no pitcher logged even 3.0 innings. Starter Austin Schulfer gave up a pair of runs over 2 2/3 innings. Then Christian Broussard gave up two more runs over 2 1/3 innings. Seth Pinkerton gave up another run over two innings and Ricky Ramirez was credited with a win for two scoreless innings to end the game. GCL TWINS TAKES GCL Red Sox 0 @ GCL Twins 2 Box Score It is always nice to shut out an opponent and both the Twins and the Red Sox held one another scoreless through seven innings before the Twins broke out for a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn the victory. Starter Prelander Berroa struck out seven over four innings, giving up just one hit and no walks but he didn’t go five innings and the Twins didn’t score any runs so he left with a no-decision. Donny Breek pitched three innings and gave up a walk, struck out two and did not give up a run or a hit. Still, with no runs, he did not earn a decision. Felix Jorge, on a rehab assignment, came in and struck out two in two innings, he gave up a hit and no runs and thanks to some timely hitting earned the W. The Twins didn’t do much with the bats, but they picked up a couple of runs on a Gabe Snyder double. The double was the Twins’ only extra base hit of the game. The Twins had opportunities to put more runs on the board but were just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
