I would say no, don't sign him. He has several years of control remaining.- 14 replies

Could The Twins Roll With A Long Reliever?
Bigfork Twins Guy replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think you nailed it. Need to decide what TYPE of long reliever we will be going with before we start to ID WHO fits that role. What has changed such that the same issue that occurred with Dobnak (i.e. sitting for 2 weeks between appearances) does not happen again? I like having two 2-3 inning guys to allow off days for the 1-inning releivers.- 25 replies

Twins Spotlight: LHP Jaylen Nowlin
Bigfork Twins Guy replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Love to see late round picks make it and I sure hope he does. The strikeout rate is very encouraging, but I doubt the "Keep everything simple. Shove it right down the middle and see if they can beat me" approach is going to make it in MLB. IMO once he gets better control he needs to start working the corners or he will get mashed up here. -
Twins 2023 Position Analysis: Second Base
Bigfork Twins Guy replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I hope he has a good year and we have a tough decision to make on his team option at season end. If not, then I think the Twins get what they can for him at the deadline and promote Lewis, Lee or Julien to 2B.- 20 replies

I guess the Twins messed up by having the St Paul Saints in the same market. Kind of cannibalistic I guess. Seriously, how many baseball fans do they lose in attendance on nights that the Saints play. Not sure if they look at that but maybe they should stagger home/road trips so the Saints for example are on the road when the Twins are at home. Maybe they should promote the AA team to St Paul to reduce the competition. Just kidding of course as they would lose out on their easy promotions/demotions between the Saints and the MLB club .

Twins 2023 Position Analysis: Catcher
Bigfork Twins Guy replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree with umterp23 that with Farmer as the emergency catcher, and two solid starters, we are good for 2023. Yeah, we'd all like a catching prospect like Rutschman in the minors, but the draft has yet to provide that at the correct drafting position. I agree with another poster that said if there is a good catching prospect in the 2nd round maybe we should grab him and work to have him ready when Vasquez's contract ends. The one thing I'd like to see in 2023 is for Jeffers to improve his caught stealing percentage and the percentage of blocking balls in the dirt. This will be a good development year for him and I believe we'll know much more about our catching strength at the end of this season. -

Twins 2023 Position Analysis: First Base
Bigfork Twins Guy replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I hope AK thrives, but if he does not then I like keeping Miranda at 3B until Lewis or Lee is ready. I would prefer Solano to fill in there if AK cannot to start the season with Gallo playing there intermittently against RH pitching in a platoon with Solano. Once Lewis or Lee is ready, and if Polanco/Julien are locked in at 2B, only then would I entertain moving Miranda to 1B. I just would prefer that he not be moved back and forth as he needs to find a permanent position.- 41 replies

I truly don't hate any teams any more. For awhile I hated the Dallas Stars because I perceived that they took our North Stars away and then won a cup. I used to hate the Dallas Cowboys because of the Drew Pearson push off. Now, I do not hate any teams because they are all just trying to win. I dislike very much the Eagle's fans as I read stories that their fans dumped beers on our visiting fans and talked nasty in front of wives and kids when we played them in the NFC Championship a few years back. I hate the fans fighting and I would not pay for a ticket where fans stand in front of me the whole game. How disrespectful IMO of them to do that. We cannot be so high on ourselves as we have the black mark on your record where somebody threw a booze bottle at a Viking playoff game and hit a referee in the head. I was VERY embarrassed to be a Minnesota fan after that event.

I guess we agree to disagree then. I just believe that negotiators have more respect for each other, although they are adversaries, if they know the other negotiator is trying to work out a fair deal for both sides. If they know that the other negotiator is the cut-throat all for my client type, then the likelihood that they even offer a fair deal is greatly diminished as is their respect for the other negotiator. I used to negotiate contracts and I can tell you from my experience, I had much better results for my clients when I had a respectful relationship with the other negotiator.

Well, at least they have a 26-man roster this year instead of the 25-man in prior seasons. Plus, we still have 3 weeks to get healthy.

So in place of those four vets would you rather have Jermaine Palacios, Jake Cave, Mark Contreras, and Kyle Garlick? That was a sampling of our subs later last season and it was not very impressive and it was the start of our late season dive. I like the four vets much better for this year. We can always call up the young guys if/when needed and cut one or more of the vets.

I like your analogy, but why push him until he breaks. Yes, the '57 Chevy did get its due (by chance) even though it was babied, but had your friend pushed it to the limit, it would have definitely blown an engine, clutch, rear-end, etc. long before being rear-ended and with much higher odds of failure than it had. I also do not prefer load management type of strategy (especially in basketball these days) because I feel it screws the fans who bought tickets earlier expecting to see a star player. That said, I do like the ratio presented by Nick to keep Buck fresh, healthy and playing for the whole year. Like he said, it worked for Mauer why not try it with Buck.
