  1. Thanks SSOO. I had forgotten that Graham finished the third and that Dozier untied the game for good after that. I guess Graham had to be the winning pitcher. That's his first win. Congratulations to him.
  2. The baseball purist in me is a little upset that the win went to Graham.
  3. yes, it is bad. Good thing they got a touchdown instead of settling for a field goal.
  4. Agree with many points. I doubt that Kepler gets a look until the Southern playoffs are over. Vargas should be back soon. Dozier does need more time off. Polanco is not a true shortstop any more than Nunez. Berrios won't be up until sometime in 2016. The rotation needs to pick it up, the only guy who has a quality start lately.
  5. Walker has slumped, but seems to be picking it up in the last week or so. His counting numbers are terrific, but the BA and OBP have dropped. Interestingly, Kepler has performed better since Sano and Buxton exited (and Polanco temporarily).
  6. I really don't agree. First of all, Berrios is only 21. I do believe he's the Twins best pitching prospect, at least in the top two levels, but I don't know how he would fare in the majors. Further, I believe the Twins will want to protect him and not use him for too many innings. He's never really pitched out of the bullpen, so that may have been an issue. Finally, there are service time and 40-man issues. Hindsight is 20-20, but it may be that they promoted the most ready guy (Duffey) and adding two to the 40-man was thought to be too many. The May thing didn't work out. I'm guessing the Twins would have kept May in the rotation if Duffey got knocked around, but since he did well his second (and now third) start, they kept May as a bullpen option.
  7. Two back of the Angels with four at TF in September. They are tied with Tampa, 1.5 behind Baltimore and Texas. That is a lot of teams to wade through, but doable.
  8. It wouldn't so much be money saved as team control. If Berrios were recalled now, he's take a 40-man spot, and would have approximately 40 days of big league service. He would be eligible for arb after three full years (after 2018) and a free agent after 2021. If he stays in the minors this year and until April 20-25, he would be a Super 2 and eligible for arb at the same time, but the Twins would get one more year of control (his age 28 year).
  9. 148+ innings so far this year for JO. A 20% increase over 2014 would be about three more starts. I'm guessing Berrios gets those three starts for the Red Wings and is done for the year. He'll have thrown enough innings and the Twins won't have used a 40-man spot for him. I think his big league debut will be about April 20, 2016.
  10. What is left at Chattanooga looks to me like the laboratory for utility and role players. Michael and Goodrum, for sure, look like utility guys who could make the majors. Turner is a guy whose glove (mitt!) should get him to the majors despite a sluggish bat. Harrison and Walker could peak as bench or right handed platoon partners. Polanco might end up in a utility role, as well.
  11. As a matter of fact, everyone in the lineup under the age of 40 has raised their average. At the rate this is going, Hunter might get that chance.
  12. The three pitcher signings all look pretty bad at this point. Hughes is the youngest and had a fine season for the Twins in 2014. I would guess he is the most likely to "play up" to the money in his contract. Nolasco has been ineffective and snakebit. He was on his way to having an okay year and then felled by an old ankle injury. Santana has spent the least amount of time with the team and his numbers are poor. In one of Santana's starts, he set down the Angels after the Twins had lost four straight games. He had the chance to salvage the Yankee series, but gave up his second homer of the game and got the loss. Today was a big chance for Ervin to be a stopper and earn some of that big contract, but he instead took the loss. Those three contracts just about guarantee that the Twins won't pursue any big-ticket starters this offseason.
  13. Nice job Casey. On the running game, circumstances yielded the results. Dozier was thrown out on a pitchout. Hunter was retired on a missed swing on a hit and run and Nuñez was out because the shortstop was able to simultaneously make a catch and tag of a short hop. Dozier, Nuñez and Rosario all had gotten great jumps on steal attempts.
  14. I would like to see the more aggressive Rosario in right. There is slightly less area in right, and Eddie has played a dozen or so games in right, so he is more experienced playing the multi-surface wall. As for throwing, I don't think the difference is great and what difference there is in strength is made up for by his accuracy and aggressiveness in charging balls.
  15. Not to speculate too much, but my guess is that the pitcher broke his nose. I hope he's not too badly hurt. I'm really surprised more pitchers don't get hit.
