  1. This is a joke right? I'm with USAFChief. Lock up Buxton, 20 years, $500 million should do it, don't want to risk him being better than expected. Same with everyone we just drafted. Can never act soon enough to give away money based on potential. (I get the point of the post, but it's still too early for this sort of thing. I also have no problem with paying a guy what he is worth, when he is actually worth it. The owners just have to open their checkbooks when these guys develop.)
  2. I believe there should be a "?" at the end of the title, not a million "!"
  3. Plouffe missed a lot more than 5 games with a little thumb injury and hasn't returned to form since. Where was all the outrage over that? Or does no one care because he isn't making $23 million a year?
  4. This was announced this morning on ESPN. I'm shocked no one is even discussing it yet. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8309691/minnesota-twins-host-2014-all-star-game-report

  6. I agree cr9617, it is a LOT more money, but paying a guy more doesn't make him a better player. If you get a raise at work, you don't all of a sudden become better at whatever it is you do. Boney, I agree on the Ferrari analogy. I'd rather have him take an extra day or two on injuries and get as close to 100% as possible and prolong his career and keep his production high. I don't understand why people want him to grind through every injury until his body is destroyed and he turns into that beat up Chevy. Beat up Chevy's are everywhere, Ferrari's are not.
  7. so where is your blog about Capps or Pavano for missing time? They just have shoulder/arm issues. Big deal. Shouldn't they be out there being "tough" and doing everything they can to help the team? Keep throwing even if it hurts. How dare they miss a few games to let an injury heal. What bugs me is the double standards here. People get hurt and miss time, no big deal. Mauer misses a couple games, or gets a scheduled day off and people flip out. Pavano makes 9M a year and he isn't doing jack for the team on the DL. Why not call him out? Capps sucks even when he does play, but he's missing time. At least when Mauer is healthy he's a productive player. And it also blows my mind that people equate a higher salary with higher output from a player. Mauer is the same player as he was when he was making 8M a year. Paying a guy more doesn't make him any better.
  8. finally, a fan that gets it. Thank you for a realistic recap of Mauer for the fans who demand 50 homers, 120 RBI and 162 games played from the guy just because he is being paid more money than he was a few years ago.
  9. feel good about yourself for ripping on a guy for being injured? seriously, you people need to move on from this "soft Mauer" crap. You have no clue how his body feels on any given day, and I guarantee if you were slid into by someone and got hit on an unprotected part of your body you'd be missing time, too.
  10. i stopped reading after you said "I SEEN the disgust on Gardy's face..." seen? really?
  11. I agree, it's one game. People need to relax and let them play a few games before jumping to conclusions. And can we please stop blaming Mauer for his contract? Tripling a guy's salary doesn't mean he will triple his output. If your company approached you with a huge raise, you'd accept it no question. You wouldn't say, "hey, i might not be worth that much, I'll work for only this much instead." The GM/owner offered that contract and Mauer signed it. Blame the guys who wrote the contract, not the guy who signed it.
