  1. I suspect they will be plentiful next year.
  2. Let's hope they find a way to consistently display the defense the way every other ballpark has for years and years now. It always blew my mind why they couldn't figure out why that mattered.
  3. In a way I enjoy being a fan of a terrible team more than a successful team. I always used to say I appreciated the people at Royals Day games on a Wednesday afternoon in 100 degree heat. That's analogous to this current train wreck of a team. It's far more fun than jumping on a bandwagon when a team makes the playoffs.
  4. Hey now let's see how this new trainer works out before we make any big moves!!
  5. Signing any talent at this point is just attempting to fake out the fan base. A waste of money. Trade all of your assets and hope for a 2025-2028 window at this point.
  6. Don't worry the FO will be sure to take credit for avoiding this mistake.
  7. The NFL makes more than any other league in part because they largely treat their players as disposable. Both during and after their careers. The owners are too powerful in the NFL, and the concentration among too few players is probably too high in MLB, but if MLB could get their revenue channels figured out (which they are remarkably inept at), they could be the model of balance.
  8. When AM radio is gone the idea of cell phone coverage will be done. These apps will either stay with you or stay with the car.
  9. Convincing Jimmy it's time to rebuild will buy them another five years in the org.
  10. Good point...we all kept hearing how much he liked it here...from sources that rely on getting information from people inside the Twins... /sarcasm
  11. Interesting. That was my original thought when I posted it but this completely makes the point.
  12. People continue to not understand that length of contracts is not what you expect to get out of the players in years, but managing cash flow for the team. Longer contracts (the same dollars stretched out over more years) actually help the owners, which helps the team.
  13. This. This. This. This. This. This. Did I say This?
  14. It's funny to see people here think Boras actually cares about what the Twins think. This was one year of leverage to park him and then put him on a national stage for a long term deal.
  15. It's possible you're overthinking the dynamics of 1. who needed or wanted to fulfill one of their PR obligations in their contract and 2. availability of any given player to do that during the offseason without difficult travel. In other words I wouldn't put too much stock in the cogs they use in the wheel on any given PR event, this one included.
  16. Hey stop beating up on the Pohlads! How can you possibly believe they are out of touch with reality?!! They are successful business men!
  17. Defend the train wreck all you want, but I believe part of the process of hiring Falvine was "flipping through the media guide".
  18. The growing cynicism here reminds me of the glory days of this forum's predecessor, Battle Your Tail Off. That's a good thing.
  19. Look at how the Vikings have changed their culture from the top. It has consistently been about building a winning organization from ownership down with the Vikings. With the Twins there is always a sense that the "baseball people" (read - not the owners because we pay someone to do that) should be financially responsible with offers. It's well documented that business comes before baseball in this organization, and the Pohlads have really never claimed otherwise. To think what Jim Pohlad says about a baseball move is giving him too much credit for baseball decisions he has farmed out.
  20. It has nothing to do with this season, and everything to do with taking every opportunity he and St. Peter get to say "we are not the baseball people."
  21. To think Jim Pohlad has any working knowledge of how things work with player negotiations is beyond generous.
  22. You have to remember that each contract sets the market for other players. One guy can go against the rest of the players in the Union, but he has to live with that for the rest of his career and relationship with baseball. It's on the owners if they want to bring contract sizes down, and even they have some limitations on colluding to do that.
  23. I'm definitely not saying it has anything directly to do with it, but I bet they're making sure they put additional thought into how and where it's installed.
  24. Also of interest is the reference to people being able to watch the game for free, while at the same time they are increasing the size of the board that obstructs that view by 75%. I suspect the two may have a little something to do with each other. I suspect owners will never want to replicate the mess Wrigley had, so they want to get in front of that.
