This is one way of thinking of professional sports. Just having a good time and cheering on a competitive team knowing full well winning a division is the ceiling. That's completely fine. However there is a market of fans that want the team to win in the playoffs and not just be competitive. I asked a Royal fan if the WS win made up for the misery he'd been through over the decades. He answered with a resounding yes! Being competitive is a nice thing, something to talk about during the year, but Championships are forever. Does anyone talk about the competitive 2006 team? No. Do we still celebrate 1987 and 1991? Absolutely!
