  1. Rumor has it the Twins were really after Laloosh, but the Rays are planning to call him up in September. When asked about this possible opportunity, the young flamethrower replied, "“I’m just happy to be here. Hope I can help the ball club." 8^p But seriously, here's the best possible outcome: Nellie gets his ring. Twins sign him in the offseason as player/bench coach; MLB and the Players Association agree on a new CBA. Nellie reaches 500 HRs as a Twin in early 2023 and retires in Minnesota whenever he's good and ready.
  2. Jeez, what a season for injuries. Even the writers are banged up!
  3. There was a sweet 4-6-3 DP! Or is everyone too depressed?
  4. Win against the Tigers notwithstanding, the book should not be closed on Happ yet.
  5. Alternative beyond left field scenario: Make him player/captain - bench/hitting coach until he can’t turn on the fastball any more They could even trade him for rest of season then bring him back in that role next year. [Note: Twins have not had a captain since Killebrew was traded]
  6. Are we no longer on the rosters of the minor league clubs?
  7. Ya think? While we're at it, try sprinkling a few on the late innings for good measure. And for those of you keeping score at home, the last time this year's staff shut out an opponent was Cleveland, back on 21 May. Right now, the Twins are food for the bottom feeders. Can't laugh at the Tigers and Orioles any more.
  8. He certainly had some observations on Kepler's batting approach. Kaat is not hostile to analytics at all. A man with his intelligence couldn't be. He balances that understanding with a grasp of pitching, hitting and fielding mechanics that enhances the spectators' enjoyment of the game. Oh, and he certainly is supposed to be in the hall...
  9. Good idea to find his replacement first. For those aching to find a bright spot, this was probably it. Oh, there was another bright spot - Jim Kaat on the color commentary through until the break. That'll keep me tuning in. This ball club needs therapy.
  10. SEASON OBER Wasn't his fault, of course. There never was much hope...
  11. The chances of a Berrios trade are near zero. Likewise for Buxton. Gleeman & Bonnes and Souhan & Neal explained why this week. Give 'em a listen.
  12. Indeed. But hey, some days you win, some days you lose, and some days - it rains. ?️⚾
  13. Yeah, it hurt, but it is hard to wish/ask for more of Coulombe when so much else was wrong that night. His line (2 IP, 7 batters, 26S/43P, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 SO) was solid, and the Twins would be happy to have more of that kind of performance. Even top-class Stoppers don't get 'em all.
  14. It doesn't gloss over anything - it's about being able to walk and chew bubble gum at the same time. "Work fast, throw strikes" does not exclude defensive fundamentals.
  15. Don't wonder. This is basic. There are going to be bad pitches and clutch hits. The principle is to control the bleeding. The middle innings of a game that can still go either way, particularly with less than two outs, is not a time for heroics, The throws from center and left would have had to be far stronger and better-targeted to have had any hope of nailing runners at the plate. Kepler in particular should know better, and Kiriloff needed to be between the mound and second to stop the other runners' advances. In some cases, the cut can even catch runners between stations, resulting in a rally-killing out.
  16. In the end, these statements don't help the club. They may not want to talk specifically about what could be hurting Maeda's performance, but when it is obvious to everyone that he is not himself they need to say so to keep fans and the press with them. If they said things like, "we don't know why yet," or, "we'd rather not speculate before we review what went wrong tonight," they'd get a lot more sympathy and understanding than they do from this kind of dissembling. Other bright notes that the article omits are the performances of Coulombe and Duffey, who held the line to keep a victory within reach of the bats. If only. If, if, if...
  17. The missed cutoff throws also contributed to this big, big giveaway night. Legion Ball players get this right. An enormous woman in a breastplate is practicing her scales in the bleachers, watching to see if the Twins can take the next two.
  18. Another great show. Much more insightful view than most on what is possible and what is not possible when it comes to mid-season trades. Can someone share the lyrics to the opening title? Can't make out the last line...?
