  1. You have a talent for understatement, Mr. Scwerzler. In 2019 the Target Field vendors were out of Garver jerseys when I visited. I settled for a Kepler shirt, and have been mildly disappointed ever since. Indications are that Garver can be every bit as good in '22 as he was in '19. Hope we get to see that come true.
  2. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm ready for another big helping of Garv-sauce next year!
  3. Well that was no damned fun. Good day to argue the merits of a mercy rule. It has to rub Astudillo the wrong way to be asked to throw an inning when he's the only guy who put up any runs tonight. Couldn't they find anyone more deserving of the honor?
  4. We'll link you up with the Twins Crisis Hotline. Mr. Falvey and Mr. Levine have probably come to terms with who they are as human beings.
  5. Two updsides: Kepler and Sano appear to be grasping how to hit oppo We are deep in the Scarlet Stockings bullpen for the remaining two games of the series
  6. Steely Dan sing the Ballad of Barnes & Barraclough: Times are hard You're afraid to pay the fee So you find yourself somebody Who only makes league minimum When you need a few more innings 'Cause your man can't take the mound That's the time you get me throwin' And you know I'll be around I'm a fool to do your dirty work, oh yeah...
  7. Polanco's situation adds weight to a growing suspicion (buttressed by Garver's and Gibson's cases) that the length of time needed to recover from illness or injury is underappreciated. Whether it's failing to fully grasp the seriousness of the ailment, identifying its the secondary effects, or finding a "new normal" when there's no going back to what a player used to be, players, coaches and fans may find themselves disappointed when it seems to take forever to bounce back.
  8. Which is another explanation for this lost season. The individual efforts are usually very good, but communication and coordination between the position players has been very poor. This Twins defense never "knit." They have both missed many outs and allowed many more opposing opportunities than they should have.
  9. The Selection Committee has voted unanimously to name Andrelton Simmons the 2021 winner of the Tommy Herr Commemorative Twins Infield Acquisition That Didn't Work Out Award.
  10. Nice to get the last word of the season series by taking two of three in a home stand, with the rubber game being a cup of 0-1 shutout. No better way to say, "Wait 'til next year." Not to be overlooked - the last two games completed (albeit without the bottom of the 9th) in under three hours. Work fast, throw strikes, beat Division leaders.
  11. Here's the lede for this story that the editors rejected: Chicago took batting and baserunning practice at Target Field today while the Twins held pitching tryouts...
  12. If Polanco learns from it we can forgive him. The guy's playing his heart out in a losing season. Sending Larnach in the bottom of the 2nd might have seemed reasonable as he was coming into third, but when watching how the play developed on video it was clearly a bad decision - Celestino's hit into the left corner was well fielded. When Upton came up throwing it was time to brake. Diaz should have seen that the relay would beat Larnach and Stassi was well-positioned up the line to take the throw.
