  1. Buck and Polanco handed him his hat back on the 1st and 2nd of July. https://www.mlb.com/twins/schedule/2022-07
  2. Not to say that there aren't pitching holes to fill if this club wants to win playoff games, but most teams can win a game in which their pitchers allow only three runs. That said, the current staff, and the manner in which their work is managed, simply will not do. Teams that regularly fail to score runs also will not win playoff games. Twins stats in the last five games against two contending National League clubs: 4/30 (.133) 7/33 (.212) 0-4 RISP, 5 LOB 9/34 (.264) 12/37 (.444) 3-8 RISP, 4 LOB 5/31 (.161) 6/32 (.187) 0-7 RISP, 4 LOB 7/35 (.200) 9/37 (.243) 2-7 RISP, 6 LOB 7/33 (.212) 13/39 (.333) 2-9 RISP, 6 LOB BA: .196 OBP: .264 20 total runs over this stretch (season average is 4.53/game). They could have gone home 3 - 5 with just two more hits. Even the dogs in the street know that this will not get it done, which is why the fan base is angry. In this sense, this year's improved squad is far more frustrating than last year's collection of losers. Oh, and yes, it really hurts to lose a series to a squad that regularly suits up in uniforms that look like they came from an ice cream shop. Pistachio caps!
  3. 1. and 2. matter. 3. is, "Yeah, but what have you done for me lately?" "Command, you must learn command!"
  4. Gleeman called this situation very accurately in last week's podcast, Some thoughts: The manager on the field is burdened with having to work with the arms the GM provides The staff has been absolutely snakebit when it comes to injury and illness this year At 356 runs in 77 games (4.6/g), the staff could do with a little more run support to tire opposing bats by keeping them running around the field longer These three things said, going back to 2019 Baldelli (and Johnson, of course) has occasionally shown weakness in his ability to measure out the arms he has carefully enough to get all 27 needed outs. Plenty of room for improvement all around. Right now the only thing the Twins are contending for is an early exit from the wild card round.and
  5. Pagan has shown he's plenty good. It's the person who told him to toss nothing but sliders who needs to be taken to the woodshed.
  6. By the powers invested in me by the state of Twins Fandom, I now pronounce Dylan Bundy officially rehabilitated.
  7. "Carew’s career .328/.393/.429 slash line..." Very difficult to maintain this level of performance over 18 years.
  8. Box score shows one error. Should be three, but apparently you can't charge both E6 and E4 when a batter only gains one base. Why would you ever spot the Yankees an out, especially when you know the umpires will always find a way to handicap them one? That communication gap is going to have to be smoothed out in the manager's office. Middle and late inning ABs got hasty again. Needed to transition from ambush mode to patience mode. Faulting the pitchers against that lineup of "savages" is misplaced effort. We all saw how well they worked the count. The Twins had them on the ropes, and the defense and offense should have kept them there.
  9. How do we arrive at this conclusion when we look at his game logs? Seems like pretty steady improvement for a guy who pitched less than 20 innings last year. Last start, the guy allowed 1 ER in a 2-3 loss. Is he the source of the Twins troubles? Take a look at his game logs and provide evidence for this assertion. Bundy has had four lousy starts. He's also thrown five games in which he allowed 1 ER or less. Until a better, healthy and more reliable arm comes along, we ought to think about how we can coach more out of his. Today was a blowout, but the fact is over the last seven games, the Twins have scored only 27 runs. RISP over those games is an abysmal: 5-35. It's easy to blame pitchers, but this spotty offense, and those cringe-worthy at bats are the real enemy.
  10. In spite of that crapulous 5-game series in the Motor City, after taking the first game from the Jays this club is on a 93-win pace. If the club gets healthy, there is good reason to believe they can build on that.
  11. Completed a third of the season today. 93-win team at this pace. Do they get better from here?
