  1. "The reaction among most Twins fans when the Avila signing was announced was more of a reserved acceptance of the fact rather than an outright celebration. In fairness, most normal human beings don’t celebrate signing backup catchers." This. Jason Castro was a fine catcher and all-around contributor on the 2019 squad. If he had to be replaced, the Twins couldn't do much better than Avila to keep from missing a beat.
  2. Once my eyes got done rolling I went back to read the article carefully. Very nice use of statistics and location data to identify why Dobnak is what he is now and forecast what he could become. Would be nice to see what he makes of another crack and the Yankees in the postseason this year.
  3. The Unexpected Lyft In Randy Dobnak’s Game He's here all week, folks. Try the veal!
  4. Four walks yesterday set up today's 3-run dong. Magnificent. Cave gets a silver star for being around third before that 2-out dying quail hits the white line.
  5. Only a bad pitch in the sense that everybody in the park was looking fastball. He'll learn. Lotta upside in that inning.
  6. The Twins are riding with Arraez as a starter this year. That will not change unless he completely implodes or gets hurt. Either way, there are plenty of players who can fill in. Please try doing three things differently: Less hand-wringing when only 12 games have been played (yes, even though 20% of the schedule is now over)Look at how he is being pitched to and defended in new waysExpect that everything will _not_ pick up exactly where it left off last season
  7. Are we so starved for stories that we're reduced to this after only 10 games? Noticing differences in his at-bats from last year is one thing, worrying about whether he can (or needs to) be "fixed" is hyperbolic. Of course, our truncated "season" is now over 15% complete, but a judgment that Garver is "broken" after only 21 ABs is laughable. Let's revisit this after we see another 3 games/10 ABs or so.

  9. That's the point - hitters don't usually score on them _because_ they're aces. ;-)
  10. Some powdery blue stink may still have been floating around the park after yesterday's game. Those rags should never have been allowed on the home field.
  11. If Berrios could get that low curveball over for strikes the way Bieber did all night tonight he'd be a 20-game winning monster. Here's a prescription for this loss: Tip your cap while reminding yourself he can't throw every dayEnjoy some family time and sleep on itWatch the video in the morning and work on takeaways in BPTomorrow's game is a new opportunity - different lineup, different pitcher and plenty of ways to obtain a better result; play hard, have funAlways believe you can stick him in your next at bat
  12. If Tom Froemming is available please include his pitching reports as part of your discussion. His 2019 season videos were very informative.
  13. And the 2020 Home Opener lands with a satisfying thud in the "Win" column. Are we all done worrying about Donaldson and whining about Bailey? I could fall deeply in love with this team. Only 56 games left, and maybe fewer if the virus gets loose, so treasure every inning!
  14. Cron had a nice unassisted double play at first yesterday, as well. Nice to see him flourishing. Orioles and Detroit at top of their divisions - whoda thunk it?
  15. Two troubling carry-overs for Berrios from last season: Good hitters read him like a book. Is it possible that something in his motion tips his curveball? His concentration seems to dip when he is staked to a lead Sunny side: Nice to see him clock his fastball at 95mph. On 24 July 2019, how many of you would have bet on the bullpen being as good as it looks today? 5 innings, no runs, 2H, 2 BB, 7K and just 3 batters above minimum. Outstanding. Bats are fine. Easy to see Donaldson was very eager to get his first hit in a Twins jersey. Cave deserves better from all of us. Oh, and 2 unassisted at first. We will not see this again in our lifetimes.
  16. Nice show. John, your microphone was a little muffled. Nick's and Seth's voices came over fine on the podcast. Cross-posting immediate post-game thoughts from the Game Thread.
  17. No Baines No Fisk No Guillén No McDowell No Thomas No worries
