  1. I really don't see this team making post-season in 2021. I think the White Sox are a team on the quick rise and Cleveland should be great as always. I think it's definitely time for a rebuild.
  2. I have no problem with removing statues as long as they are consistent. Be consistent with what you say and what you do.
  3. I think we also need to get rid of Kirby's statue. Although I have been a lifelong fan of Kirby, I was very sad to hear of the shocking accusations against him in his later years. I think it would be appropriate in consideration of all the survivors of domestic violence and abuse.
  4. And I would add that most of the billionaire owners are human success stories. They didn't make their fortunes in baseball. They don't need baseball either. They have their successful businesses that they can tend to if they decide to do without baseball. The players need the owners and the fans. The players need the game. The players must be the ones to sacrifice most for the sport if they know what's good for them.
  5. The best thing is simply not to play the season. End of story really. I think it would help a lot of people in this land realize that we really do not need this sport nearly as much as the players need us.
  6. Happens quite often actually. Especially in places such as the Philippines. Many, many wealthy people in the Philippines have to have constant bodyguard protection and are not able to go out and about in common society due to safety concerns.
  7. Right now it looks very likely that the season will be cancelled.
  8. I guess my whole point was that if it was considered a game during the days of Ty Cobb, and it was, it certainly should be considered a game in today's age.
  9. I could go on and on...Such as the fact that the players had to travel by train. They had to worry about pitchers like Bob Gibson throwing a ball right at their ear, they had to worry about players like Ty Cobb sliding in with his spikes pointed upward at your chest or worse! If anything, now it is a game, at least compared to what they had to endure back then.
  10. The players worked just as hard years ago. Only difference being that the players years ago had to go to war just like anyone else. When was the last time you heard of an All-Star baseball player sign up to go to war? And when there wasn't a war, and it was winter, the players went to work their winter jobs.
  11. Great move! Now get an ace pitcher somehow from trade. At least our lineup is World Series caliber!
  12. You are correct. The Pohlad family is one of the wealthier families in baseball.
  13. This is absolutely the truth. If a businessman buys a professional team to make mega money, he's living in a dream world. I'll say it again, if the owners of the Reds, Royals, Twins, Pirates, etc. wanted to spend the bucks, they absolutely could do so! They don't want to, it's their choice, of course, but let's not live in this fantasy land that these owners are counting every cent. They just choose not to spend.
  14. The only reason you put the cleats on is to win the World Series. If that is not your goal in the field and in the front office, it's time to hang em up. Sustained success is winning three world titles in a decade. Not being "competitive" 7 out of 10 years. Maybe if the Royals had not dumped all their good players, they would have continued to have great crowds and increased revenues? Is there some kind of rule in baseball that says that a team like the Royals can not increase their payroll? The problem with teams like the Royals, Pirates, Padres, Twins, Reds, is not that they CANNOT afford a high payroll. It's that their owners don't WANT to have a high payroll.
  15. If the Twins do not trade for more starting pitching help this offseason, then I definitely would advise them to not make such statements again about starting pitching in the upcoming offseasons. It only serves to demoralize us and our team. If they get nothing this offseason, then they would best be very hesitant about putting out press releases about going after such and such a need in the offseason.
  16. Absolutely agree with this article. You want a manager that will get right in your face. Billy Martin comes to mind. You didn't mess with Billy Martin. Guess what? He was a born winner. He was born to win. I like the managers that can get their players' knees shaking. When you're more afraid of your own manager than the other team, you will win.
  17. I think there are a lot of people who feel like you do and if the Twins are not careful they may very well end up losing a whole lot of fans from what is going on. It's one thing to have very poor seasons but when you do have a good season, make it count. The Twins seemingly never make them count and I think it could hurt our base of support for the future.
  18. And that is what is so sad about this series. We did NOT have to win this series for this season to be a gigantic success. We just had to play our butts off in this series. Instead, if this series continues this way it absolutely will destroy the meaning of this season because we would have disgraced baseball. Even those elite teams of the past, like the Big Red Machine or the outstanding 70s Oakland teams, or the dominating Orioles of the 60s did not destroy teams like the Yankees are doing in this series. It's almost unheard of. Sad.
  19. If we could just win even one game in this post-season it would be a major accomplishment. Just to get the monkey off our backs.
  20. Absolutely. In a real sense, this series has been a bit of an embarrassment to Major League Baseball. MLB really could have used a wild series between these two teams. I personally think they were counting on it. This was a dream series for MLB and we royally messed it up. And I think true fans of the game have a right to feel a bit cheated about it. I know Thomas looked upset.
  21. It's difficult to sweep the White Sox. We're not taking 3 in a row against the Yankees. I would dearly love to send it back to New York but if I know the Yankees, they don't mess around.
  22. It is beginning to get very old now. I was actually really nervous in the first two innings of Game One because I really did think that we had a legitimate chance this year. By the end of the fifth inning of Game One, I totally lost all my nervousness because I realized this year would be no different. I am however, quite surprised with the lack of competitiveness of our club. I would have thought it would have been very competitive these last two games. That's what is surprising. We really have never been dominated like this in any kind of stretch in this entire year.
  23. Judging from the reactions of Frank Thomas and John Smoltz, I get the real sense that a lot of the TV broadcasters are a bit frustrated, maybe disappointed, in the Twins for getting destroyed by the Yankees. I think the expectation for TV was that this would be a very exciting series. It has been, by far, the most dull series in the post-season.
  24. I was expecting a competitive fun game last night. Disappointing. I am hoping for a much better game today. Countless times the Twins have come back after a rough game this year.
