Do you think we’re a little over-sensitive to ‘impact starting pitching’ because it worked so well for the Astros and Nationals last year? Personally I’m really happy with how this team is built and can’t wait to see what happens this year. The 2020 Twins may lack a true ace, but they’re better positioned than any other Twins team in recent memory.
‘Pitch to contact’ was my least favorite part of the good Twins teams of the 2000s. I will love the strikeouts from our impact pitching this year and beyond.
Didn’t Joe Mauer make $23 million a year in his big contract? I don’t think I’d take JD over prime Joe but I’d take him over late career Joe. Hopefully the end of JDs contract turns out different that JMs.
What a day! Our offseason went from treading water to an improvement from the team last year. I’m totally fine with them getting any player who will provide elite value to the team. There’s plenty of evidence showing that WAR value is the same regardless of position and this move maximizes that for the Twins only realistic offseason moves.
So excited for the game!! Still not sure if I have complete faith in the Twins winning, but watching our team in the postseason is worth every minute. They’ve got the potential to mash and have sneaky good pitching- this is their chance to show it to the world and perform. GO TWINS!
It’s been fun to watch the offense light up and show some grit during the Yankees series. If that continues the Twins are just fine. Pitching not so much. It looks as if they’re running on fumes. Hopefully some new additions bring some energy to the pitching staff and we can feast on our division rivals in August and September. If the group as a whole can regress to their mean (or even right at or just above league average) I’m not too worried about making the playoffs. Also, the Indians have been playing really hot the last month and that can’t last forever. They’re not as bad as they started the season but they’re not as good as they have been the last few weeks. Even a small cool-off by the Indians should give us a few more games of breathing room. All we need is to be up by at least one game at the end of the year. I think this club can hang on and accomplish that.
