  1. With Astudillo coming back as well, Cave will surely be sent down. As for the second cut, it depends how comfortable they are with Marwin playing short and Astudillo playing the outfield as far as releasing or trading Ehire.
  2. Yeah the trade was for one year of control of Pressley. Then he signed a 2/17.5 million extension starting in 2020, which is fair but projecting relievers 3 years out is risky. Then again, we seem to have received more return for two months of Escobar.
  3. In looking at bullpen team stats, theres room for some hope. Theyre second in bullpen WAR, second in lowest hard hit rate, second in highest soft hit rate, third in highest BABIP. This suggests that a lot of softly hit balls are falling in for hits and that a regression to the mean can happen to their benefit. They also are truly bad at BB/9 rate (24th) and any improvement at reducing that along with maintaining weak contact and things could start looking better.
  4. Is something up with Blake Parker? He hasn't pitched since last Wednesday and I was expecting him to close out the 9th inning. On another note, Hildenberger has been something to behold so far this season.
  5. Burdi has appeared in 8 games with a 17.55 K/9 and a 1.35 BB/9. He has a -0.31 FIP. He's averaging 97.1 MPH on his fastball. He's absolutely killing it and there's no way he's being returned to the Twins. He only needs to stay on the active roster through May to meet the 90 day obligation.
  6. Mejia not having options is going to mean that they keep throwing him out there. Hes got another 3 or 4 weeks of this before he shows he can be effective out of the bullpen or test waivers. Meanwhile, Nick Anderson and Nick Burdi are killing it for other teams. How about trying Eades and Reed before you lose them for nothing.
  7. Harper has pitched great, it just seems theyre using him mostly in low leverage situations. Since there has been so many close games, we're not seeing him much. Look ahead to the next three games with Perez, Gibson and Odorizzi. Likely going to need a lot of bullpen innings and Parker, Rogers and Hildy shouldn't be available tomorrow. Need at least one more arm they can trust in high leverage situations.
  8. I wonder how long it will take for the Twins to go to an 8 man bullpen. They could stick with 7 and rotate Vasquez and Harper down to AAA for fresh arms, but rotate with whom besides Romero? If youre going to have Harper and Vasquez in the pen youre going to have to trust them enough to use them or else you'll end up like Molitor and overuse 3 or 4 guys.
  9. Eflin was helped a lot today by Twins swinging at pitches out of the strike zone. There was one Adrianza at bat where Elfin threw him 8 straight balls. He could have walked twice! I laughed when Adrianza singled at the end of the at bat.
  10. It looks like the Front Office will continue using the 40th roster spot as a rotating fill a need/designate for assignment/claim on waivers type of deal.
  11. Austin designated, De Jong called up, likely to piggyback Pineda today since they needed to use Perez yesterday?
  12. Do you have a feel for any low A/rookie league players who could break out into top 25 prospect status? Any pitchers with velocity jumps or new pitches?
  13. Its wonderful to see a career minor leaguer like Harper get his shot. They delayed the Austin decision for a few weeks but cant see him getting many opportunities for regular at bats unless theres an injury. It will be interesting to see how Perez responds to the bullpen. His stuff could play up as a reliever and he could become the difference maker in relief that they are looking for from Romero. Theyd need a fifth starter in that case though and Perez wants to start.
  14. This is very exciting, especially the experiential learning/feedback drills instead of verbal cues and tradition with minor leaguers. Parker, keep reporting on this type of stuff if you can. It's great to see the Twins investing in cutting edge practices instead of the status quo.
  15. Let's say Kirilloff lives up to his "best hitting prospect not named Vlad" status and destroys AA this season. Will the Twins bring him up this year or hold off til 2 weeks into the 2020 season for service manipulation reasons? Will it make a difference if the Twins are contending for a playoff spot?
  16. With Kirilloff in tow and this front office's predilection for drafting bat first college hitters in the first two rounds (Rooker, Larnach, Jeffers), there was no need for anything but a stopgap this year. We might not see another regular first baseman from outside of the organization for the next 12 years. As for this year, hopefully we avoid a LoMo repeat with Cron. A Duda/Austin platoon looks outstanding on paper but why waste two roster spots on players who can only play average or below first base.
  17. Zack Granite DFA'd to make room for Gonzalez. He would have made a great pinch runner/defensive replacement in an era that didn't require 13 pitchers on the 25 man roster. Hope he finds a home!
  18. Just to add to what Markos said, Marwin was reportedly asking for 4 years, 60 million. Houston (along with everyone else) wasn't going to pay that and moved on rather than waiting for the price to come down in February. If Marwin would have been open to 2/21 in November, he might still be an Astro.
  19. I'll take the Reeds, Michael and Jake. There is a path for both of them given the opportunity in the bullpen and the volatility of Cave (.363 babip and 33 k%).
  20. If Ryan LaMarre was Sire eligible, than Michael Reed and his career 35 AB's must be too!
  21. Wouldn't surprise me if the front office swoops in on a last minute, discount one or two year contract with a reliever or two now that camp has started. It appears to be a Falvine strategy.
  22. Hes going to be playing almost every day as a supersub and injury fill in. 500+ plate appearances.
