  • Twins Minor League Report (7/11): Red Wings Rally And Rosario Rolls

    Seth Stohs

Brian Dozier is an All-Star. The Twins topped the Tigers again. Kohl Stewart and Randy Rosario were very good. A 2015 draft pick continues to impress on the mound in E-Town, while a fellow 2015 pick was promoted to Cedar Rapids. The minor league leader in hits added three more on Saturday and a top prospect had his first two doubles. And, Rochester had a big, late inning rally. It was a full day in the Twins system on Saturday!

It will be interesting to see how the SS position is handled with the Kernels, what with both Nick Gordon and Sean Miller there. I guess Miller could play some of the other infield positions. He has a reputation of being a defensive wiz at SS so I doubt it will hurt his development if he moves around some. Also, doesn't hurt to add a little infield depth with both Blake Schmidt and Trey Vavra on the DL.

Gordon's going to get the great majority of the playing time at shortstop.  Miller will likely play all three middle infield spots, along with Valera as well.

I was excited to read Stewarts line since you mentioned him then I saw the walk to strikeout ratio

    ICK

For now I'll just take some solid outings from Kohl and hopefully the K's come at some point. He's healthy and pitching, so that's the important thing.

Unfortunately Walker is not an international Player.  It would have been nice to see him in the Future Game as Kepler's replacement.  Leading the minor leagues in HRs (23) and second in RBI (73).  The event is called the "Futures Game" though.  Meaning Top Prospects

The 23 year old Walker is 5 for 13 in 3 minor league all star games with 1 2B /1 HR / 1 MVP.  He also has 4 runs scored and only 3 SO.  Not likely he would have embarrassed the Twins :)

Best of luck to JO Berrios in Sunday's game.  He is the Future :)

If like to see some advanced metrics for Stewart. Despite a high amount of hours given up, he has only allowed 1 hr this season. Seems to be a trend for him, not allowing hr. His last 4 outings have been pretty good. He is still walking too many guys. I really hope things click for him to end the year. If he even continues to do what he's already done i bet he still starts in aa next season. If he struggles or misses time due to injury he repeats.

Seth:  I'm looking at the ages in the Rochester roster.  There's a lot of guy's in the 27-29 range.  Is there any plan in place to start rotating some of those guys out to make room for younger players?

Who? I mean, Berrios and Polanco have moved up to AAA. Not sure others from AA need to move up to AAA right now.

This is a pretty normal AAA roster. A lot of veteran players.

    Kepler, when he's healthy.

    Scott Atchison (just kidding).

Will Walker learn how to hit off speed pitches better in AA than AAA?

I'm good with your approach to leaving a guy at a level if you have a plan for getting improved results at that same level in the second half of season.  Walker's K/BB rate never improves in the second half so why would you keep utilizing the same teaching tool?  Nothing to lose by promoting him.  Somebody call Jake Mauer and Tommy Watkins and ask them what they did to get Walker's K rate to drop 10%!
