Twins Daily College Baseball Notebook: Week 6

Another great update, Jamie.  Like most fans on this site, I guess I prefer the Twins stay away from bat first corner guys and opt for a more complete player who excels at bat and in the field.  I think both Parada and Susac look good, as does Lee who has a great eye at the plate and decent power.  I have seen Lee predicted to go as high as third.  What do you know about Adam Mazur, a Minnesota kid.  I have heard that a number of scouts think he might be able to hit a 100 on the gun once he goes pro.  He might be an interesting pick later in the draft--BA has him at 56 I think.

Totally agree with your take.  I think if Lee was there at 8 he would be my first choice but I don't think he will be.  There are questions as to whether he stays at short or not but his bat would still work in the corners and he would likely be an above average defender on the corners or Keystone.

Parada's bat has been crazy good but his arm seems weak and he only threw out like 15% of base runners last year not sure if that has improved but seems a bit dangerous to have a catcher that might have trouble defensively. Granted the Twins have been good at developing catchers on the defensive side so maybe that isn't that big an issue.

I wouldn't mind Delauter a right fielder in the Kepler mode in that he can run well and has played center.  At least there is some defensive upside there to go with the bat.  

Catcher and Short seem like bigger needs right now and if that is what falls then I would take it.

I still think Brandon Barriera would be my pick.  A Lefty pitcher with three plus pitches is just too good to pass up IMO.  I would double down on the arms race but that is just me a home grown pitcher starved Twins fan.

We caught some of the Tennessee/Vandy series this last weekend and they are pretty legit.  Dollander is as solid a college pitcher as there is in the country right now (he was straight shoving it Saturday against Vandy).

DeLauter is interesting. Law just put out a piece saying he doesn't even view him as a first rounder so he's becoming divisive. 

As far as Parada, if he was there, I'd take him. Base runners is only a small portion of catcher defense and the added value of plus hit and power tools there would be huge.

Excited to see how the arms continue to develop, none have cracked the top 10 in most boards yet (aside from Lesko). There are actually a few good lefties who will go in the first, along with Barriera, there's Ferris, Barco, and Schultz)

Lesko may have some of the best pure talent among HS arms, but.... bleh.  I really hope he's not an option for the Twins.

Ok, I will admit to some of that aversion coming from the wildly unethical behavior of his HS in flat out recruiting HS athletes from all over Georgia and the South East. I have yet to hear a good story about any interaction with them.

Yeah even before the season starter there were scouts who wondered the level of competition DeLauter has faced and how he would do against better competition.  Not too surprised to see him likely drop.  Divisive is a good word for his situation as it really depends on how you see him developing.

Yeah looks like the hot spot for pitcher's is going to be likely in rounds 15 to 25 or so.  Some decent ones might fall into the supplemental rounds as well.

If Parada keeps going like he is I don't think he is going to make it to number 8. 

Appreciate you keeping the draft talk alive.  This is important draft for the Twins to refresh the farm.
