It is officially All-Star week and that means the first day of the MLB Draft is finally upon us. Unlike in years past, when the draft took place in early June, this year’s draft will take place in the All-Star game’s host city of Denver, Colorado.

This year’s draft will feature just 20 rounds, instead of the usual 40. Day 1, which begins at 6 p.m. CT and can be viewed on ESPN and MLB Network, features both round 1 and Competitive Balance Round A.

The Twins have two picks tonight, with the first one coming at pick number 26 overall in the first round. They will then conclude tonight’s events with the last pick in Competitive Balance Round A, which will be pick number 36 overall. The draft will then pick back up again tomorrow with round 2, starting at 12 p.m. CT.

If you want a quick glimpse at who some of the top prospects are available in this year’s draft, you can take a look at the Twins Daily Top 50 Draft Prospect rankings.

Chase Petty. Who?? A high school pitcher. There must have been half a dozen of us that specifically told them not to pick a high school pitcher. Not just because of recent draft flubs, but because it takes up to five years to coach up and get guys like this ready for the show.

Failures of past front offices should have little to no bearing on the actions of the current front office.

I would also note that this is a draft by a management team that thinks it has solid job security.  Neither of these players will see MLB for 4-5 years in all likelihood....

The last thing I EVER want is for my favorite team's draft coordinators to draft as if their job is immediately on the line.

Woof, that would lead to some truly terrible outcomes given how the MLB draft works and the timeline it operates on.

MLB draft is kind of like opening a new soda because the last one went flat.

We get excited because they managed to manipulate the bonuses and eventually sign Will Holland and Willie Jo Gary, which seemed big at the time, but it has gone stale.

    P****TT! Fresh bubbles.

Ehhhh.... not so much perhaps.  Holland and Gary are both very good players and tremendous athletes.  They were good picks then and still are.  Whether or not they are able to make the majors is in many ways irrelevant.

So ... it says he (Chase) has committed to Florida ... I assume that they wouldn't have drafted him if they didn't know they could sign him, right?

According to Kevin Goldstein at Fangraphs, who worked in a FO, yes, they almost certainly have an agreement already. With both players.
