The 2018 MLB trade deadline was always going to revolve around one player, and that was Baltimore Orioles shortstop Manny Machado. Among the list of players who are expected to be available at the deadline, none of them come anywhere close to matching the stardom that Machado has.

However, at the end of the day there is only one Manny Machado and he can only play for one team. So, that means there is now a handful of teams who must now look elsewhere to fill the hole in their roster they were looking for Machado to fill as they make a playoff push.

It's 10:45 a.m. on May 29- a warm and glorious but slightly muggy morning on Memorial Day weekend. Target Field's gates don't open until 11, but the local artist known as Kickliy is already in line. It was reported Friday night that Donaldson, a former American League MVP, had given his price to the remaining suitors, believed to be around $110M over four years. The Twins are either unwilling to take that shot, or believe that even if they did, he would end up with another team. So what now?

The Twins could have hardly asked for a better finish to the month of March. During their last eight days in Fort Myers, they went 8-0, receiving strong outing after strong outing as their starters stretched out to season-ready form. Hitters looked to be ahead of the curve; six regulars posted a Grapefruit OPS above 850. Everyone was healthy.

Then, the calendar flipped to April, and the team has been under some cruel hex ever since.

Darren Wolfson of KSTP reported Saturday night that the Twins would be calling up Zack Littell to start one of the games of their doubleheader Tuesday against the White Sox. Littell was promoted to Rochester at the start of May, where he's pitched to a 2.57 ERA over five appearances.
