The Twins have made it clear that they intend to keep manager Paul Molitor around for one more try after leading his team to a record 103 losses.

His coaching staff, however, may not be so safe. Neil Allen, in particular, looks like an obvious candidate for replacement.

A lot has changed in a week. The Twins made a trade. And the Twins have fallen in the races for the American League Central and for the wild card. The team is now under .500 after a tough series, getting swept in Los Angeles, coupled with great play from Cleveland and Kansas City. They are 5.5 games back of Cleveland now, and four games behind second-place Kansas City. They are also four games back of Kansas City for the second wild card spot. The Rays are in between.

The Twins are not out of it, but man, in one week they have gone from buyer to potentially selling.

The 2017 season will be remembered as a year of great improvement for the Minnesota Twins, as evidenced by their 26-game jump. Yesterday, Twins Daily named Byron Buxton the 2017 Most Improved Player, an award that could have gone to a number of deserving players.

Today, we are announcing the Twins Daily 2017 Rookie of the Year winner. In 2017, 19 rookies spent at least some time with the Minnesota Twins. Fourteen players made their major-league debuts for the Twins in 2017. So, there were a lot of names to pick from, but in the end, the choice was clear. He is also someone who has quite a bit of (virtual) Twins Daily hardware around his home.

Looking back, the 2013 season was probably the low point of Minnesota's competitive lull. Not in terms of results – we all know nothing can top 2016 – but in terms of stagnating strategy and vision. That 2013 team epitomized the negative traits that torpedoed the Twins out of contention, and into a lengthy rebuild that continues now.

Five years later, it's interesting to take a step back and recognize just how much has changed – and how drastically the Twins have pivoted to adapt in the new era of baseball. Better late than never.

Eddie Rosario led Minnesota’s offense in almost every major category last season. He evolved into the clubhouse leader on a team that was missing key players like Byron Buxton and Miguel Sano for large chunks of the season. He became the club’s most consistent offensive threat.

The Puerto Rican outfielder got off to a slow start this season. However, things seem to be trending in the right direction. Can Rosario continue his recent surge and how important is he to the Twins offense?

Minnesota acquiring Sam Dyson at the trade deadline was one of the team’s highlight moves as the bullpen was conceived to be one of the team’s greatest weaknesses. He was in the middle of a terrific season with the Giants as he posted a 2.47 ERA and a 6.71 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He was brought into Minnesota to be one of the team’s late inning options, but that certainly hasn’t been the case.

Dyson has pitched like he is damaged goods since he put on a Twins uniform and now it seems likely that he will undergo shoulder surgery that will cost him parts of this season and next season.
