  • Game Thread: Twins @ A’s, 7/28@9:05pm CT

    Riverbrian

Our Twins are in Oakland tonight for a 3-game series against the A’s. Things can sure change quickly in a mere week of time. Last Friday the Twins were chasing the Indians and this Friday the Twins are chasing the A’s. The Twins went 1-5 while the Indians won 7 in a row and the Royals have won 8 in a row. This turns things around from .5 back to 6 games back; the exit velocity required a helmet.

When you consider that Jaime Garcia trade rumors are in full force before he has even thrown a single pitch for the Twins… you can’t help but realize that Falvey/Levine have become the baseball equivalent of day traders. Stocks falling on predictions of speculation of rumors of negative indicators became reality. The Brooks Bollinger Band has been broken and we got us a trend reversal. Was Jaime Garcia purchased with a trailing stop?

Here are some things to think about:

    Twins Video

    1. Oakland – In the battle between San Francisco and Oakland… San Francisco has won and should be congratulated. If you don’t believe me… what is the name of the bay? It’s not the Oakland Bay… it’s the San Francisco Bay. Oakland has the largest port but San Francisco is called the City By the Bay. San Francisco has Chinatown and Oakland has Guam Town. San Francisco has all the tourist attractions... Fisherman’s Wharf and the Golden Gate Bridge... while Oakland’s biggest tourist attraction is one of the world’s largest telescopes, which people use to see what is going on in San Francisco.

    2. Our Twins – One good hot streak and the Twins are right back in this thing!!! Well… actually… one good hot streak and simultaneous cold streaks from 3 or 4 other teams and the Twins are right back in this thing. So I’m telling you… there’s a chance.

    3. The A’s – Can you remember a trade deadline that didn’t involve the A’s somehow? All the players whose numbers have been retired by the A’s have been traded by the A’s. It’s an endless cycle. The A’s have been stuck in an infinite loop… they have fur and then trade that fur for animals who produce fur.

    4. Today’s Joe M Conversation:

Maddon: Guys… I’d like you all to meet Joe Morgan.

    Mauer: Hey, Joe.

    Montana: Good to meet you.

    Morgan: Yes, it is.

McCarthy: Judging by your name, you’d like to join our club, I assume?

    Morgan: What group?

    Maddon: Our 'Joe M' group

Morgan: What does it take to join your club?

Mauer: First name 'Joe' and last name with the initial 'M.'

Morgan: I’ll call Pete Rose and let him know that he can’t get in here either.

    5. Oysters – I like oysters but when you look at them… you can’t help but wonder… how hungry was the very first person to find an oyster and say, "Screw it… I’m eating this."

Buxton can take his time. Zach Granite is looking better and better out there. I like this kid's quick, flat swing. Built for a high average. Byron will have his job back the moment he feels healthy. Meantime, it's fun watching Granite.

I agree. I wonder if Granite could make Grossman the odd man out?

I agree. I love watching him remind me of Ben Revere throwing it in from center.... and that baseball IQ for a guy so young........

Yup. If Zach Granite does at this level what he was doing at AAA, the Twins have no reason to keep Robbie Grossman around. His walks are nice, but otherwise, Granite's overall game is better. Plus, the Twins can use a serious base stealer in the lineup, or at least on the bench.

Go to St Cloud it's called the Granite City, lots of granite to look at. Relatives I bet.

I've been to St. Cloud a couple of times.

It's like one big blob of retail.

I drove around the entire town and all I saw were businesses.

Where do the people live? Where are the residential zones. I saw no houses anywhere.

Dick mentioned Granite leading off which, if the guy continues to hit, isn't a bad thought.

And there have been a couple of times earlier this year it would have been nice to have Granite to bring in as a defensive replacement.

Troglodytes, caves mostly along the river.

Dick just asked how Garcia compares to Santiago. He needs to be given a one month suspension from FSN for that, I just threw up. On that topic, has anyone ever watched a FSN televised game in the past 5 years in which Dick has not been present? I feel like he hasn't missed a single game in years, and kudos to his dedication, but does he have any interests in life outside of broadcasting Twins baseball? Serious question.

And to be honest, after listening to him and Bert on the air for lord knows how long now, it'd be nice if Dick would start to take as many games off as Bert does. I get sick of listening to their same old lingo over and over again.

I've been trying to think of a Twins pitcher that Garcia reminds me of.

Scott Diamond. Cocks his wrist like Diamond, fastball tails glove side like his.Garcia's command may be better than Diamond's, but like the former Twin, it's a little puzzling why more hitters don't tee off on him. I guess "late movement" is the current theory.

I'd be fine with Cory Provus in there, to be honest
