A new team is talking with Boras about Correa…

I said 25% when I posted this last night.  I’d say at least 50-50 now?

And just read on the other rumor thread the post by Brock saying he’s hearing secondhand that “it’s gonna happen.”  I’m pushing my odds up to 62.5%

Well how wild would it be if our FO went from being viewed as Boras's rubes to the best poker players at the table in one move?

This would move the Twins up to second place behind Boras. Boras always wins. The only question is how much he rakes in.

Athletes are a funny bunch. Insane confidence, but really bad at math and downright cowardly when it comes to guaranteed money. I know that 315 >>>>> 285 but when you look at simple to calculate things like inflation and compound interest, the value CC tossed aside in the early years of the SFG / Mets deals vs the Twins deal is crazy. 

If CC had made an basically risk free 'gamble' on himself and played the 70 mil out through 24, he'd be hitting the market before his age 30 season. This while 3-4 Megadeals probably still look good and are still en vogue. He'd have literally no trouble getting the same 10 year deal the Twins offered for a total of 390 Million dollars for the same 12 years he was signing up for with the Mets. With a much bigger chunk up front. Meanwhile He's got such a better shot at being a 'face of baseball' in a good way playing for the Twins. The only way he stands out in NYM / SFG is if his deal goes to hell. (Irony). 

Sure the other deal was Guaranteed, but what kind of risk does he really have? Was he leveraged to a third world dictator? If he craps out in the next two years, he's only earned 105 Million for two years of work, and never has to worry.

These cats get so much bad advice. It's like they all hire financial advisors from their agents offices. Or they sign deals where their agents get paid in the first year of the contract or something (cuz money now is worth like 20% more today than it is in 10 years)

All true and I’ve wondered why he didn’t go for shorter, higher AAV contracts. Two reasons come to mind:

1) Boras wanted to get the full commission, so incentivized to get him out of the Twins 3/105 deal as soon as possible

2) Maybe the plate in his ankle is legitimately going to disintegrate after a few years, so he wants to get as long a contract with as high a value as possible now.

It's along the lines of #2.  In the world of guaranteed contracts and the ever present risk of injury it's a simple equation of taking the most money you can get.  These guys bet on themselves only to position themselves for a better long term deal, when that comes in unless it's so off mark they take it.

Offer carlos a ten year $350M with and opt out after every year. He will likely exercise it in November 2023 but can say to himself in the mean time that he signed a long term dream deal.  Boras can also claim to be the best agent ever. Lol. 

On another thread here it was said that Bowden stated on radio that Correa and the Mets are finalizing a deal.  Once again the Twins were used.  I wasted so much time and nothing happened.  F Correa and Boras!

I also think Boras use Twins as a leverage to lure Mets to change mind and sign CC.   

I feel Martin, Lee, Lewis or other players would just do fine.

It's nice how Boras uses the Twins FO like a puppet master.  Doesn't say much for the people running this organization.  I won't say how I feel about Boras(except he is bad for baseball). I wonder if any of the Twins pitchers would consider planting one in Correa's ribs when they play this season.

Yes I'm sure the guys that all loved playing with Correa so much they FaceTimed him to get him involved with a uniform reveal for a team he no longer played for will decide to throw 90mph projectiles at his ribs because he tried to get paid in the offseason, a goal every last one of them share in common. 

You're taking the game and business of baseball waaaaaaaayyy too seriously.

The best way not to be used is the be the Pirates and not participate.  All negotiations will use the buyers against each other. If you don’t want the Twins to be used you must not want them to buyers.

No, I'm just sick of what the sport has become.  I won't pay a dime to watch a game on TV or go to a stadium to watch any pro sports except for the NHL.  In fact, I don't watch baseball any longer, games are too long and the Twins are no longer competitive. But, I like sharing my thoughts...so that's what I do.

My bet is both 1 and 2 are true.

Talks between the Twins and Boras re: Correa are “accelerating”….

It’s up to 80% now, I tell you.

But did Correa really tackle Boras into a hotel bed when he landed him the Mets “contract”?  I might’ve had that reaction if it was the Yankees…or the White Sox.

Everytime I give up, my hopes go up again.  I am still sure the Twins and their fans are going to get burned.
