You take a chance on a left-hander who competes like he does and throws strikes like he does. The player development staff can take a guy who throws his pitches for strikes already and make those pitches better.
In 49 innings for Point Loma, Veen struck out 59 while only walking three. After posting a 0.51 WHIP for the Sea Lions, Veen went to the Cape Cod League where he continued his success, striking out 14 in 13 1/3 innings.
