  1. Lance Lynn won that trade. He moved to a new team where, for whatever reason, he started pitching better and ended up getting a nice contract. The Twins may end up getting a little bit out of Rijo, too, someday.

  2. Lynn hated that the free agent market wasn't good to him and he had to 'settle' for a $12 million, one-year deal. Came to camp late, because he signed late, and got off to a poor start and he just carried that with him all year. He was never signing back with the Twins so getting anything for him was a bonus. Same with each of those 2018 July/August deals. They took a shot with Austin, and he was a bit of a pain, but there was some upside there. Lots of power. Rijo was just a polished pitcher when the Twins got him. Now he's got the control and multiple pitches still, but he's hitting 95 and even 96 on occasion. Hopefully he gets a chance to keep developing.

  3. The 2018 Twins were going nowhere. Lance Lynn was a sunk cost regardless. The team was not going to put a franchise tag on him. He was going to be gone regardless. They got a player that a change of scenery might benefit. It did not work. Had it worked the Twins would have not been as likely to have signed Cruz. The team in the end won. The Yankees went nowhere in the playoffs with Lynn. Even if nothing became of the prospects, the Yankees got nothing out of Lynn when they needed it. I did not consider the throw in, Rijo has a chance to be something. If he does, it becomes a big win rather than a small win.

  4. Wasn't there an issue with the size of CHS stadium? That it didn't have enough seats to qualify? Maybe I am misremembering. The mimimum requirement of AAA staduims is 10,000, and CHS's is only 7210. Was there a waiver issued? Does it have to be expanded?

  5. I may be the only one, but this article has caused me to be somewhat anxious about the Twins' future.. Where are the superstars who are currently producing minor league super stats?

  6. So who came up with the $20 million for the franchise fee? Hopefully the Twins covered it 100%.

  7. I don't fault the FO for dealing Lynn. You roll the di, you take your chances. But when I look at Lynn's numbers over the last two years, the low ERAs and WHIPs, and the fact that he has finished 5th in the Cy Young voting in '19 and 6th in '20, I ask myself, "Would those performances look good as part of the Twins rotation?" "Why yes," I answer myself. "Yes, I believe they would." Then the wife tells me I'm muttering to myself again ...

  8. I actually think Lewis is the next man up for CF.

  9. Going to a AAA game would typically mean you're watching guys that end up in the majors across the country that have little to do with your home state team (if you're fortunate enough to have one). Now we have it one COUNTY away. We are now spoiled and this will no doubt have a very positive affect on ticket sales. Just PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't jack up ticket prices in any way. I know they say they won't this season, but trust doesn't run too deep with MLB owners. Cheap seats and concessions is what helps makes the minors, "the minors".

  10. It is DH - not a position player. There are many options, including in house. Use the money for the critical positions - pitcher, pitcher, pitcher.

  11. No No No. Too old to justify taking on that contract. Also, Darvish and Maeda would have to fight over the number 18 (which in Japan is reserved for the best pitcher on the staff).

  12. Oh, come on. This isn't even close. Bauer has reached a level all we Twins fans have DREAMED Jose would. I'm willing to bet that Bauer will continue to be an Ace for a few more years. He won the N.L. Cy Young ! That's more than an Ace. It's being the BEST ! Jose shows flashes but hasn't turned the corner yet and the annual "I've run out of Gas performance doesn't engender a high degree of confidence. If you ask ANY poster on TD "who would you rather have" 90% would say Bauer. And the other 10% would use excuses like "I'm not sure I'd want Bauer in my clubhouse." Whatever. It's game #1 of the World Series against the Dodgers. Bauer or Berrios ?? Yeah. Bauer.

  13. Because of this weird year, a lot of teams are trying to cut costs, teams like PIT & TX. Other teams are capitalizing on pitchers who had a pretty good 2020. So you have teams like TB where Snell had a good PS but a poor 2020 season, yet they are going to milk a trade w/ everything they can get. Bauer will also try to milk his Cy Young w/ all he has got. IMO the Cubs will try to trade Darvich along w/ Kris Bryant, depending how desperate they are. IMO Sonny Gray makes more sense, Gray has had some good years, 2020 not being one of them. Looking at Twins FO history, they'll go after a bounce back candidate w/ high up-side bargain

  14. Would love having Cruz back with the Twins next year, but not on a two year deal. As for the Twins, they may be better off if he isn't back, both financially and on the field. I believe Rooker is going to be a very good hitter with a real chance of hitting as well as Cruz does in 2021 and better in 2022. And he would be doing that for $0.05 on the dollar. The Twins may have realized this and another offer may never make it to being 'on the table.' And if Rooker doesn't work out, there is Kirilloff and Larnach. One of that trio is going to be very good...although expect one will be in left field.

  15. Don't think that production vs cost is worth his value at this point.

  16. There is no excess value in that contract that would justify giving away a top prospect. He wouldn’t get $20 million per in this open market.

  17. Romero was added to the Gigantes Dominican team and has pitched twice. Didn't get anyone out the first game, and loaded the bases in a mop-up role in the 9th the other day, but threw 6 straight swinging strikes to escape.

  18. Just the fact that we still have Smeltz and Raley helped us get Maeda makes this a good trade for the Twins. I'm not sure either Dozier or Forsythe have much value left. Of course if Raley provides quality MLB at bats for a few years, it could tip the balance.

  19. I agree with Cody, Twins did well on trade. Escobar was going to be a FA after that season. Twins were bad that season. If they get anything from any of those 3 players at the MLB level, it is a positive trade for the Twins. The other 2 may never make the MLB level, but Duran looks good and could be a long term MLB contributor. Twins knew it was going to take time to get any return from trade.
