Worley to the Pirates

This overtakes Erickson for Klingenbeck as JR's new favorite trade ever.

It's not that bad...but there's no explanation for it. He cleared waivers, what was the harm of stashing him at AAA or even at AA and seeing what happens? Otherwise, why not just release him a week ago and be done with it? $$? The payroll is $20 million less than what they claim it could be. Don't give me $$.

Why? What possible reason? I guess they had too many SP for Rochester? To be nice?

I didn't have high hopes for Worley, but I can't come up with a good reason for this move....and neither of the possible reasons I mentioned above seem any good to me.

I wrote that on March 25 when the Twins sold him to Pittsburgh. Still not able to justify this move.

Hard to argue with you on this one. I think most people on TD didn't "get it". Since he cleared it made sense to try and build his value back up in AAA. Maybe it was VW's attitude or something and they felt he needed a fresh start and they gave it to him. I don't know. There are guys waiting to come up who have greater upside than VW. Maybe they didn't feel there was room. In the end it is what it is. You win some you lose some.

The reactionary part of myself felt he was so bad this spring I didn't want to have to watch him anymore. It was a relief when they shipped him off. My better judgement said probably should give him another in AAA and see what he can do before you give up on him. He will likely never be more than a #5 starter and not the center piece of the trade so not too much lost here.
