Darren Wolfson says that the Twins may have some interest in free agent lefty Joe Saunders, at a minimal level.

Makes zero sense to me, except maybe as depth. I'd MUCH rather go with Scott Diamond (or Worley or Deduno or Gibson or Meyer or May or Raley or Johnson or Gilmartin or Darnell or Dean or...)

C'mon. This absolutely begs credulity- and not exactly a vote of confidence that any of Diamond/Johnson/Gilmartin/Raley can step up into the role. I'm glad they've listened to the fans concern about the need for a LHSP.:P

It must be some kind of loyalty test for Dougie, or maybe just to see what level of dupe he's willing to descend.

The more competition the better. on a cheap deal he could unseat Pelfry or Correia should they not be any good or if they can get something for Correia. If Dedunno starts the year on the DL then you have the 5th starter either Worely or Diamond and Saunders is just another option if he signs with a low base and incentives to maybe 2 million or so. I think Meyer starts in the minors regardless due to service time and this could keep him down till the trade deadline or even next year which isn't so bad now that we are loosing Sano for the year. We want to bring up the new core quickly and I get that but I also want them to be together for as long as possible once they are up.

If the Twins are seriously thinking about wading in these waters, why didn't they just go after a more legitimate LHSP in Capuano, for a few dollars more?

I'd certainly rather see the efforts directed towards Johan, but I suppose the scouts can probably sweat and chew gum concurrently.

He's redundant. If the report is true it's mind-boggling that they would look at this roster and say "You know what we need....another 4th starter!"

I think the plan is to round up all the 5th starters they can find, and then play musical chairs. The 5 5th starters left standing at the end get rotation spots. Only reasonable explanation I can think of.

Edit: wait, i got that all backwards. The 5 sitting at the end get rotation spots? Though, I guess it doesn't really even matter.
