Twins glut of Pitching Options

As of right now, the Twins currently have on their 40-man roster these starting pitchers:

Andrew Albers

Kevin Correia

Samuel Deduno

Scott Diamond

Kyle Gibson

Phil Hughes

Ricky Nolasco

Vance Worley

The Twins have also been tied to several more pitchers over the last day (or longer), including:

Mike Pelfrey

Bronson Arroyo

Bartolo Colon

Johan Santana

Matt Garza

I would imagine, that in no particular order, the Twins rotation for the upcoming season will include:

  • Kevin Correia
  • Phil Hughes
  • Ricky Nolasco

After those three, I would imagine that it would be open season for everyone else. Assuming that the Twins do sign another starting pitcher in the next few days (or next day; have heard Twins might make a move today), that leaves one starting spot open for everyone else. Who do you think has the inside track, and why?

Seems logical. Why would Diamond's being a lefty have anything to do with whether he is better than the others?

As a fellow left hander, I would just have to say that we are awesome. Pretty much awesome at everything.

As a Twins fan, I'm going to say that I don't care if they break camp with a rotation of 5 RHP. I just want the best rotation possible.

LOL... Yeah but you get Ink on your hands and the spiral in spiral notebooks will dig into your skin when writing.

Playstation controllers are built for righties... Using a can opener sucks for you and the Cup Holder in your car is on the right side so you have to reach across yourself to get a drink of your Starbucks coffee and this will cause you to drift toward the ditch every once in awhile. ;)

That sounds like response from the oppressive right-handed propaganda machine to me. Always trying to keep the left-handed man down.

I would have to think that Deduno would take the last spot. I could see Worley or Diamond moving to the pen, or the Twins working out a trade involving one of them. That is, if they have a good spring. I would think Worley might have the inside track if Deduno isn't healthy though. TR has to prove that he got a good deal on that trade, so I think he has to get at least some value out of Worley before giving up on him. I only say that because May is clearly not a sure bet.

Deduno, because Ryan said so.

That said, Deduno just started long tossing. I have a hard time thinking that he will not start 2014 in the DL. Worley and Diamond are out of options so the one who shows up in better shape during ST will likely get the job (or the 2 jobs)

Of course, I suspect that there will be some additional changes in the roster by ST and some of those pitchers will not be on it.

If the Twins do sign a third free agent starter, one would have to imagine they'll start shopping the others. Worley, Diamond and Deduno likely don't have much trade value, but someone will want them. With the winter meetings underway, I'm a little surprised we haven't heard any trade rumors regarding them, Gibson, the recently DFA'd Hendriks or any bullpen arms. Or maybe they are such low profile guys no one is bothering to report on that action.

I agree I thought for sure they would have packaged at least one of those guys up and tried to get anything they could especially Hendricks as time is running out and I hate to see him leave for nothing.
