Yo NFL draft doods...

So, current draft order has the Vikings 4.

1. Texans

2. Rams (via Washington)

3. Falcons

4. Vikings

5. Raiders

6. Jaguars

7. Browns

8. Bills

9. Buccaneers

Currently, assuming the same order, you would figure on Teddy Bridgewater #1, then Jake Matthews or another OL is a big possibility at #2, then the Falcons will want OL or anyone they could find on defense. It is feasible that the Vikings could see Jadeveon Clowney fall to them at #4!

Vikings should be at #3 after this weekend since Washington plays Atlanta. Even at #4, if Houston passes on Bridgewater (not impossible) and nobody trades up, he wears the Purple in 2014. The draft boasts multiple franchise QBs, but who will they be? Too bad Mariota didn't declare. Carr is a strong candidate, but probably not top 3 when there will be at least one of the defensive studs sitting on the board. I'd be happy with Clowney or Barr. They may still get a decent QB prospect early in round 2 (risky) or trade back into round 1. Don't see much indication they plan on giving Freeman a shot next year, but maybe they roll the dice if the draft doesn't cooperate.

I enjoy seeing the Vikes win. The crazy thing about this season is...its incredible how many close games they lost inside of 2 minutes. If they had any sort of legit QB play throughout this year they win the division easily (even with a poor defense, that has actually been looking better)

Assuming they get a 8-10 draft slot, maybe the move is to trade down a few picks, grab Johnny Football and load up on defense the rest of the way. Keep Cassel around as a one year stop gap and let Manziel or whoever else they grab get some time to learn the league.

The other thing they could do is the classic Vikings move and bring in a veteran to hold down fort for a year or two til the rookie is ready. Michael Vick, Cutler and possibly others could be available.

The defense is clearly a huge problem and can be addressed after the first round. Good defenders at any position don't impact defenses like good QBs impact offenses. Although immediate success from a rookie signal caller happens rarely outside the "can't miss" prospects, QB should be top priority. But I don't want to see them reaching either when there are so many holes to fill. If Carr, Bortles, or Hundley is on the board at #8, they will have a tough decision. I like Cassel over Ponder, but he is still in the bottom 10 starters. A team this far from making a legitimate run doesn't need a stopgap behind center today if they can draft a leader who can grow on a team going nowhere in the near future.

Would be nice to see Bortles or Bridgewater fall to #8 but not counting on it. Thankfully, I'm seeing few mock drafts these days linking the Vikings and Carr. Think they could trade up in the second round and get him. There will be some solid options at #8 even with the top QBs gone, particularly on the defensive side. The one good thing about having needs pretty much everywhere is the top talent available to choose from is very likely to fill a hole.
