Article: Friday Night Game Notes (Twins Win and Sano Shines!)

Recommended Posts

Good stuff.

I think that the Twins might have a change this year if they finish this month close to .500, but they cannot afford any sweeps like in Baltimore and vs. Texas.

Got to mention that Nishi had a triple tonight too, which is his first triple in US Pro ball.

And Wheeler looks about 15 in that picture :)

Great read.

Sano's night was awesome, but also Reliever A.J. Achter from Michigan State had ANOTHER solid relief outing, i think he could be a good candidate to rise quickly in this system.

ISN"T IT GREAT THAT ALL OUR MINOR LG. Orgs. are basically .500 or better? Can't remember the last time they got off to such great starts, GO ROCK CATS !

I hope Sano's glove can keep up with his bat! Reading the game story, he's quoted several times and comes off as a thoughtful, well-spoken young man. Plus it mentions there is a documentary film in post-production, titled "Pelotero," about his and another countryman's signing process. The film was produced by Bobby Valentine, no less.

Rosario's fifth error--anybody know how he looks at second base? He's yet to show any power at all, although he is stealing lots of bases and has his average up close to .300.

Arcia seems to be striking out a ton. Revere and Benson not hitting much, though Benson seems to be getting on base.

Did you notice New Britain's opponent went 6-8 stealing bases of Lehmann/French?

What a great night for Twins baseball--one late homerun away from a sweep!

I just think he should stay in Beloit, at least until the 4th of July. Why? Because I have 2 trips planned to Beloit before then. Im going on the Territory Train trip the first week of June (i understand there are still seats available! (http://territorytrain.com/trips/minnesota-prospect-tour/)). I'm also heading there with Twins Minor League Weekly co-host Travis Aune the final weekend in June.

I think that whether Sano (and Rosario among others) stay in Beloit for the full season will probably open the Twins' cards on whether they want to keep their A team in Beloit in a contract season. Sano and Rosario bring tickets. Fort Myers is probably the only franchise that the Twins do not have to please (they are not going anywhere for the foreseeable future) so no need to rush them there, if they want bottoms on Beloit ballclub seats this season...

Here is more about the movie. (http://peloterothemovie.com/) Those around Madison, WI, there is a screening today. The film crew is still there and continues to follow Sano, presumably for a second movie.

I tihnk people may have been thrown off on the type of hitter that Rosario is based on the home runs in Elizabethton. Although he is very strong, has a very quick bat and will hit some home runs. He is a strong all-around hitter. He will likely hit a ton of doubles, hit for average, etc. But when it comes to HR power, it's definitely is Sano. It's kind of like the comparisons that are made about these guys. Sano is compared to Miguel Cabrera and Alex Rodriguez. Rosario is compared to Beltran and Cano. All great players, but different yet.

Arcia has serious power to all fields, but his problem throughout his minor league career has been the strikeout, and that remains.

i hope they don't move him up for awhile. mostly for personal reasons. i live in chicago and i'm planning to see a few beloit games this year, so i'd like to see him before he moves up. i would think that they would leave him in beloit for at least half the season though unless he really forces the issue. tough to say he's forced the issue after only 2 weeks, but exciting to see him off to a good start.

Why isn't Sano ranked higher than 18th by BA? He seems like the most exciting Twins prospect I can ever remember. Time to give the Twins front office a little credit. Carrol and Willingham have been everything anybody could possibly hope for. Excellent upgrades. Burton seems like he's really settling into a great option too.

Do we think the Twins will make Sano's (.314/.453/.765) stay in Beloit a short one? Fort Myers currently has a committee plan at 3B (Jairo Perez, Andy Leer, Anderson Hidalgo) so a Sano move to the Miracle wouldn't be too disruptive, organizationally.

I attended quite a few games at E-Town last year and sat next to scouts many times. They all raved about Sano but most scouts had major doubts about his REAL age due to his body type and visiting with other sources. It is very possible he is 22 years old and is right where he should be age/level wise. I think there is enough likelihood his age is false that BA and others cannot rank him higher.

I know that is what kept many away in the beginning. On the other hand, his growth in the last couple of years is more consistent with a teen ager than early twenties.

I'm not saying he isn't a good prospect at all. He would be a TOP prospect if it was fairly certain his age is accurate. The way he is trending he will be a big league regular with above average power and high K's which is still a very valuable asset. The scouts did say that many teams were not willing to bid as high as the Twins for Sano because they had reason to believe he was 2 years older than he claimed when he signed. In the end, the Sano lie may benefit the Twins greatly as otherwise they had no shot to sign him if he was truely 16 years old.
