Main Points of Discussion:

A) I realize outfield defense will be below average from the get go.

-Hopefully Hicks is ready to take over CF by May, moving Granderson to a corner OF spot and either demoting Presley, or trading Willingham for a prospect if Willy is hitting the ball come deadline time.

 

Mauer Catching/playing time for Pinto.

-Mauer will catch around 85 games this year, hopefully. That leaves about 80 games for Pinto to catch, plus there is the possibility of DH/1B at-bats when he isn't catching. I think there is ample amount of PA for the kid. We know that Mauer can't catch 162, I DO NOT want to see Doumit catch 80 games or watch Hermann bat in 80 games. This hurts us in many aspects of the game.

 

C) Hopefully in July, Hicks is fine & Sano and Buxton are both ready to break through. This would allow us the opportunity to trade some players and make room. Possibly trading Granderson to a contender, if he rebuilds his value the way I think he will. Otherwise and outfield of Buxton, Hicks, Granderson sounds okay with me for a couple years. Arcia could DH/spot outfielder

Don't freak out about the payroll being too high either.

 

Correia, Hughes, Willingham, Doumit will all come off the books after the season. (27.5 million)

Then two years later, Granderson's 22.5 million would be off the books as well, if we don't flip him for a good prospect at a trade deadline.

Well, first, the major league min is about $500k, not $300k so that affects your numbers a bit. And your arb numbers are off quite a bit, too.

Why would Hughes sign a one year deal?

 

Why would you bring in Granderson when CF is our deepest position org wise?

Fair enough, my numbers were guesses for arbitration... League minimum is more than 300k? On baseball ref it listed 300k.

 

We are going to have to pay to

get talent here, and we don't want aging players for 5 year contracts. Granderson fits perfect IMO. He isn't old, would be open to short term deal, which would build him up for a final good deal to end his career. Plus we have the money, Ellsbury will want long term deal, Choo can't really play CF at all IMO.

 

Dave, my old friend, glad we could meet again. I agree CF is strong, if season started today Presley would be there. That isn't strong though. Granderson is going to have a huge bounce back year IMO, and can play CF til Hicks is ready, who will then give way to Buxton. Once either of those happens, Granderson would be above average in a corner outfield spot, or we'd have two deadlines to trade him off for a good prospect.

 

I think Granderson is our best bet to improving our offense short term until the young fellas are ready.

 

Gut tells me Hughes will take one year deal to build up his stock to get a long term deal. I'd have no problem going 2 for 24 if you wish, Dave. Target Field gives him a good park to build up his stock.

 

I'd really love to see Ubaldo and Granderson happen.

 

2015 opening day would look nice.
