Article: Twins Minor League Report (8/30): Sano Shines Brightly

Recommended Posts

Mendonca has been pretty incredibly awful. Hopefully, he can develop some control.

Eades has also been pretty disappointing for a 2nd round pick out of college pitching in relief in rookie ball. I was thinking he would jump to FtM to start next year ala DJ Baxendale, but now Cedar Rapids seems more likely. Any insights/scouting reports on Eades' performance Seth? Any speculations on his assignment for the start of next year?

I too have been closely monitoring Eades' performance in E-town. I watched his college world series start after the Twins drafted him and I've been worried about what the Twins have in him ever since. It was a very underwhelming performance. As a second-rounder, I expected some quality to jump out - whether it be velocity, command, or a strong secondary pitch. He had none of that.

Admittedly, I saw only one performance late in a season so I was willing to chalk it up to a bad day. But his decidedly mediocre results against mostly younger players in the Appy league has reinforced my concerns.

I enjoyed having these reviews all year, coupled with a quick link to box scores. Became an early morning stop as I reviewed what interests me in the world of baseball and BIG football.

Thanks for doing this Seth, I understand how much work it can be. But it is appreciated!

I'm begining to suspect the Twins continually re-up with their Rochester affiliate only to abuse and degrade them.

In all seriousness though, the Twins seemed to keep Arcia and Hicks at New Britain last year when they clearly deserved a promotion and the implication was it was to help them in their playoff quest. The Twins don't seem to have same respect for the AAA club. Must be because they sell Yankee gear in the proshop.

This year the Twins take away Pinto (understandable due to a catching need at the MLB leve) but do not appear inclined to promote any of the five best and most exciting players on the New Britain team even though most if not all seem to warrent a promotion. I'd imagine Gene Glynn would be more than pleased to take Sano, Rosario, May, Meyer and Santana.

Eades certainly has not been terribly impressive so far, but I wouldn't make any more about that than I would about a top pick coming in and dominating. I'm think he'll still be a starter next year in Ft. Myers. That would be my guess. I'd assume Slegers will likely start in Cedar Rapids, but he could be at Ft. Myers too.

I don't know. Everything Eades has done thus far for the Twins, simply confirms what I saw in 2 post-season appearances for LSU. His college coach had virtually no confidence in him- almost pulling him in the 2nd inning of one game, and his lack of a smooth delivery and continual inability to throw strikes consistently or force weakly hit batted balls confirmed his concerns. Did the Twins scouts close the book and make their final decision on drafting him early in the spring? He was awful at the end of the season in college, and obviously, he's a mess right now- and all this while going up against less experienced and polished players while doing so- a 2nd round college pick should be dominating at this level. I hope there's not a Wimmers-esque arm issue as yet unidentified.

Seth:

Now that E-town is done--any chance that Stewart and Gonsalves go to Cedar Rapids for the playoffs?? Berrios seems to have hit a wall and Brett Lee and others have thrown a lot of innings.

No.

Longer answer. Nope.

Stewart hadn't pitched for 9-10 days at E-Town because he had some shoulder soreness in a bullpen, so they will just wait for Instructs for him to pitch again. Gonsalves has done enough. He's definitely impressed.
