Dozier Gold Glove?

Who else thinks Dozier deserves to win the gold glove at 2b? I realize that the award is about politics in baseball and that the most deserving players don't always win it, but the dude has been on point all year with the glove. He makes so many plays that I don't see other 2b making. Can we start a petition?

Dozier has been outstanding at second. He deserves to be considered IMHO. I would presume that Pedroia will win and if he doesn't, Robbie Cano will get the award, mostly because they are well known and good offensive players. We all know that Gold Gloves are a crock, but Dozier has played a great defensive second base.

Dozier makes some excellent plays at 2nd. He makes almost all the routine plays and that is worth a lot after years of Casilla and company manning 2nd. Still, his range is not elite and he is not gold glove caliber 2B IMO.

Casilla was pretty good defensively. All the negativity was driven by the Twins.

Casilla had amazing raw talent but he couldn't make enough routine plays to be pretty good defensively. That wasn't driven by Twins, that was all on him.

Dozier deserves to be mentioned as a candidate but he hasn't spent enough time in the majors to get an award like this (he just isn't well enough known) especially when there are several other very strong candidates.

Is he deserving? Probably--Will he win? Not a chance. As was mentioned earlier, he doesn't hit enough to win one and he is not well enough known around the league.

Exactly! Hitting has soon much to do with a defensive award. Too bad defense is not the only thing required to win a gold glove.

'Ever since pulling his average above .200 at the end of May, Dozier has been a .265/.343/.488 offensive performer and a fine defensive second baseman...Florimon does what shortstops should do – field. Using Ultimate Zone Rating to judge, Florimon is second among American League shortstops. He makes plays that other shortstops don’t.'

Casilla was pretty good defensively. All the negativity was driven by the Twins.

He had lots of mental lapses in his earlier years and it didn't take anyone telling the fans for them to see it. Fangraphs says he had a negative UZR in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

And the main Twin, Gardy, said he liked Casilla's defense so much that Casilla would compete with Hardy for shortstop (said right before Hardy was traded).

So, how did the Twins drive negativity about Casilla's defense? Casilla's bad defense and absentmindedness in his early years drove the negativity.

I am a huge Dozier fan, I have been outfront with that, even when he was struggling, and even last year when he was a disaster.

BUT, he doesn't deserve the gold glove.

He's been very good defensively, but Pedroia is just better, by a mile.

It has nothing to do with his bat or his popularity, Pedroia is the best defensive second baseman in baseball.

I haven't seen a lot of Red Sox games, but when I have, Pedroia has been a standout. I simply don't trust defensive metrics, but they also say he is the "head of the class". Dozier has been great in the field and a bright spot in an increasingly dark season. I am glad he's stepped up.
