2014 Free Agents

Where would Morneau rank in terms of potential 2014 1B free agents? What determines Type A and Type B free agents?

Not that the Twins would be in on it anyway, but is there anything to get excited about in terms of starting pitching for 2014?

No such thing as type A and type B free agents anymore.

Sorry for the old terminology.

Will Morneau be ranked high enough by Elias to be subject to compensation?

The only way we get compensation is if we make a qualifying offer. Which would be around a 13M one year contract.

Not only are Type A/B gone, but the entire ridiculousness of the Elias rankings is gone as well.

The new system helps big spending teams and the players themselves while hurting the small market teams. I agree the rankings were ridiculous, but the idea behind it was better than what we have now, IMO.

They both suck(ed), for different reasons, but at least the current system ends up with fewer opportunities for the suck to enter into play.

I don't know how they managed to take the opportunity to come up with a completely new system, and end up with something nearly as lousy as what they already had.

Morneau would take the qualifying offer, so that is not an option. Hope Twins try and sign him, but do not expect they will pay him what he wants and what another team(Red Sox or Toronto) will offer. Twins need to put money into pitching.
