He's way too expensive....talk about a seriously over-priced player.

Right. That was my tongue-in-cheek point. Dodgers are stuck in a bad way with that mope and his huge contract. God forbid, TR got talked into taking on Ethier. Yikes. Send back Gardy's cuddle-buddy Punto or their best Dodger Dog vendor. Whatever.

From what I have heard, Colletti called and said "We are thinking about Butera." Ryan responds "Done." Colletti says "We were thinking about..." when Ryan cut him off and said "No, he's yours, done deal. Per rules we will just say PTBNL".

Now the big question is, what I am going to do with my 41 jersey!

I figured after I wrote the post...this turned into quite the joking thread. Probably be the best thread of the year.

Dodgers could probably afford to have double their payroll and not even sweat it...

I'm more curious to see the trickle-down effect this has on the organizational catchers. Jairo Rodriguez was bumped up from CR for the few days Butera wasn't at Rochester, but now that he's gone for good, they'll need to make a more significant move. Both New Britain and Fort Myers only have two catchers and now Rochester only has one (though I bet Clement could still catch in a pinch).

It actually went like this...

Wear it to his HOF induction. He's finally going to an organization that values catcher defense ;)

My favorite part is that this was the last deal announced. Like, they were haggling over Drew freaking Butera as the clock ticked down...2:58...2:59. Meanwhile the dozen teams calling about Morneau and Perkins got a busy signal.

(I know that's not how it actually works)

Doesn't matter if it's not how it actually works, the visual is hilarious anyway! :-)

My attempt to make a joke that the PTBNL in the Butera trade would be the Dodger's mascot was foiled when I learned that the Dodgers do not have a mascot.

I was going to post a picture and everything...

Good thing the Twins drafted 3 of them in the first 10 picks this year. Almost like they could smell the Dodgers desperation and were planning to pounce all along.

Good thing we loaded up on catchers in the Rule 4 draft.

All part of the Master Plan

Or even worse... Ryan on the phone with Butera as all the GM calls disappear from the other lines, getting Son of Sal to drop a no-trade clause that the organization kept secret out of fear of being the laughing stock of MLB...

It felt more like a "No drop from the 40-man roster" clause

From AAA journeyman to being just a passed ball to the cup away from being the everyday catcher for a contender. What a long, strange trip it's been.
