Article: Twins Minor League Report (7/27): Vargas Powers Miracle... Again

Recommended Posts

By no means did Baxendale pitch well, but he also suffered from some poor defense in my eyes. In the first inning, there was a deep fly ball to center (a little right center) that seemed to me like it should have been caught, but Parraz couldn't get there I guess. Maybe he was shading too far to left center, but it sure seemed like the ball should have been caught. It was in the air for quite a while.

There was also a pop foul that should have been caught. It was a long run for Bigley no doubt, but he got there - just didn't catch it.

In the fifth, Baxendale got a ground ball to second with the bases loaded and no outs. Rosario uncorked a really bad throw home. 2 runs scored on the play and left runners on second and third with still no outs. Things continued to unravel from there.

It was very disappointing not to see Sano in action. I'm ok with disciplining the guy, but this seems to be getting a little excessive. Did he kick somebody's dog or something?

Overall, the team looked very 'bleh' on the field with little energy. I guess that comes with losing so many games in a row. They definitely need a lift.

Though I've heard he doesn't always look this good, Max Kepler looked like a Gold Glove 1B last night: A tough diving stop to his right, two tougher diving stops to his left (which saved at least a run) and a good dig on a sharp ground ball to end the game. Oh, he also homered and had an RBI single vs a lefty.

Seriously, a four game suspension for watching an obvious home run leave the ballpark... that's stupid

I would tend to agree if the benching was based on this single action. However, there have been other incidents reported and it would seem likely we don't know everything that goes on. Let's not assume everyone is incompetent, at least not when we only know part of the story.

It's already been reported in numerous places that not only has this been an issue for Sano before, he did a little extra here against a former team mate that he had an infamous confrontation with just two weeks before the ex team mate was cut, he then told the manager he would do what he wanted and did not respond well when Ryan tried to talk to him about it... Yeah he earned a sit down. I just hope he's learning

I disagree. A 1-game suspension for showboating on a HR, another game for pissing-off the manager, and an indeterminate number of games for pissing-off Ryan.

This team has proven itself time and time again they are one of the most incompetent organizations in professional sports. A four game suspension for showboating is asinine.

This is another case of this organization forcing a top prospect to do things the "Twins Way". Basically they aren't satisfied until they break these guys down until they are meek opposite field singles hitters who don't show their true talent until they are traded to another organization.

Just get him back In the lineup and turn the page on this non story. The front office acting like overbearing parents only makes them look foolish.

Amazes me that people think that the 4 game Benching (not suspension) is just because of the home run trot.

The front office and the Rock Cats manager are absolutely in the right. Doesn't mean it has to mean anything further, but it had to be done.
