Article: Twins Minor League Report (7/17): Rosario Sizzles

Recommended Posts

I love what Rosario is doing. I've always been high on him because of his fantastic bat. Since around the middle of last year, I've figured he would probably be up with the Twins before his partner Sano, but we'll see. They may be up at the same time as September call-ups. Of course, they're going to both need 40 man spots.

I think I said for the last year or so that Rosario would be up before Sano (unless it was a marketing reasoning, of course)... until Sano hit for all that power early in his time with New Britain. Rosario is such a good hitter. He doesn't have the strikeout issues, and now he doesn't have that defense issues. It will certainly be interesting to see how the Rosario situation plays out. Rosario does need to be added this offseason. Sano does not until after next offseason.

Sano needs to show he can hit AA pitching before fans can think of a Sept Call up

Its great to see Baxendale pitching and getting through innings. it shows he is learning and making adjustments. I'm looking forward for him to stay healthy the whole year and learn how to get advanced hitters out.

A lot of people underestimated Baxendale coming out of college. Good to see him doing well. Also Keith Law likes him. Hopefully Rosario keeps swinging the bat likes he is capable of, he very well should be considered for a september call up. Why not put Dozier at short and let Rosario get his feet wet a little bit.

Jeremy has Rosario listed as a 2014 add just like Sano. Which one of you is the liar here? ;)

I just read Keith Law say Baxendale is not a prospect unless he adds velocity. You may well be right. I am just wondering what Keith Law said about Baxendale.

I think Baxendale is one of those safer picks (high floor low ceiling). I think he can contribute on an ML rotation some day, but he's the kind of guy who likely gets replaced as he gets expensive.

He was a 10th round pick. I mean, I don't know what people are expecting. He throws a FB into the low 90s and has a good mix of pitches. He's not a top of the rotation type, but he's done well to this point. It should be no surprise that he's had ups and downs at AA. That's normal for a good college pitcher.

Also, remember that Keith Law is one person. he's got a good track record having been with the big league club, but he's just one opinion and he doesn't see a lot of these guys. That's not to discount his opinion, just to remind that we shouldn't make too much out of it. I put just as much credibility to a guy like John Sickels and to Baseball America and to anyone who scouts. Even within an organization, decision-makers aren't all going to agree on everything. Law's voice is great, and he's got contacts, I'm sure, but it's just one voice.
