Questions about trip to Minnesota.

Hello

 

Next year is my first trip where I will be visiting Minnesota. Therefore, I seek some tips and advice for good places to see and visit. I'm in town about a week and then I will go to Rochester and see the Red Wings play if I can get it to fit.

 

I hope to hit opening day at Target Field and take a few matches.

 

However, I have a few questions ang entrance tickets at Target Field, I would like some good ones, and I expect to take 3-4 matches if I can get it to fit with the game program. I gonna make the trip from Denmark so better be abit prepared.

 

I probably have more questions, but there are quite a while for me to travel so they will come over the next few months.

Okay, just wanted to be sure. In case you didn't know, there is a Rochester, MN not far from the cities that is pretty well-known for its hospital. It causes a fair amount of confusion re: the Red Wings.

Even driving from New York City to Rochester is going to take a while. Google maps estimated it to be about 5 1/2 hour drive. I was trying to find a comparison for you as well. So, the drive from NYC to Rochester would be a little longer than driving from Copenhagen to Hamburg.

 

Driving from NYC to Minneapolis would take you about as long as it take to drive from Copenhagen to Rome. So, like I said, that is quite the road trip.

OK. Now your trip is making some sense. Trains in the USA are very embarrassing. It's not like Europe. Part that has to do with the size of the US. I've met some Europeans that have a hard time grasping that concept.

Yeah, same here. The US is roughly the same size as western Europe with about half the population. Lots of open space over here, which makes trains incredibly expensive to maintain and keep the cost per capita reasonable.

Your tax is pretty low, if you compare to what Denmark has...

I've never been to see the Red Wings, but I would guess it's more trouble than it's worth. If you want to see more Twins facilities than just Target Field, and you're planning a separate trip just to do that, I'd suggest going to see A+ Fort Myers. Plane tickets are cheaper, and you'd still see great prospects (often BETTER pure prospects), playing in the Spring Training facilities. Once I finally made it down there, Spring Training was more fun to follow thereafter, because you can picture what their days are like, and see all the practice facilities that videos come from, etc.

Most importantly, AAA may not be in Rochester forever. If you're going for 'check-marks' for your fandom, that complicated jet out east could be irrelevant not long down the road. I'm 26, and there's been 5 different AAA locations in my lifetime. The Fort Myers outfit isn't going anywhere. They own the stadium, they just sunk in a ton of money, and there are further serious renovations planned over the long term.

 

Long story short, I'd say skip the Rochester trip. See other big league ball parks, or go to Ft Myers if you want more Twins locations.

I have a better idea... Go see the Rock Cats play. New Britain, CT is way closer to NYC than Rochester and you'll get to see Miguel Sano take some hacks at AA pitching.

Ah, I didn't see that. Well, if Sano isn't there, chances are Buxton will be.

 

Really, who I want to see depends on the roster of each team. Right now, there are interesting players at every level, including AAA courtesy of yesterday's demotions.

Winnipeg to Minneapolis is about a 6 1/2 hour drive, I make it about 6 times a year, doesn't seem like that long a drive to me, but when you live in the middle of nowhere, time is relative.

 

I think it would be quite an adventure for you with many interesting stops along the way, I would do it in a heartbeat.

 

Hopefully next spring in Minneapolis will be much better than this past spring and you can get out and enjoy some of the beautiful sights in the city......if not, you might get to try some ice fishing.

Will you be visiting cities besides Mpls./St. Paul? Are you interested in seeing baseball in any other cities? I ask because you will be in Chicago and New York City.

The Chicago parks can be easy to hit back to back sometimes depending upon if Wrigley has a day game. I can't recommend Wrigley very highly, but they're both unique for a variety of reasons.

In Chicago both teams are rarely in town at the same time, though. Would have to plan it pretty carefully to see game back to back here.

Am necromancing this thread in hopes that Slowball is still around. The 2014 schedule is out and if you're still planning on making a visit to the US/MN now's the time to start penciling in dates.

 

Bring lots of money. We need all we can get.
