Article: Trade Talk: The Washington Nationals

Karns would be of interest. Walters is interesting, but I'm not sure I'd give up much for him. The rest not so sure. I would think if Perkins is on the block that they should be targeting more than just sleeper prospects.

Amen, why would we create another hole by trading Glen , if we cant at least fill a Hole by doing so?

I wouldn't be shocked if the Twins shipped off a non-Perkins asset with a lesser prospect to get a much better prospect... That, I think might make a bit of sense if the other team wants a player such as Morneau but doesn't want to massively overpay with a top 150 prospect.

Duensing and a good prospect in A ball for a reliable reliever?

No, more like a guy the Nats could use right now plus a decent A ball prospect for a nice SP or SS prospect at a higher level. Not sure if the Nats would match up well with that, but that might be how the Twins can turn guys like Morneau, Doumit, Burton, etc. into something that a contending team would buy.

Drew Storen an interesting buy low move right now if we find a lot of buyers for our own?

He's lost about a mile per hour on each of his pitches this year, although his FB is still averaging 94mph. That would make me nervous as a buyer so as always it comes down to what the asking price is. Would you do Fien or Burton for Storen?

Trading FOR relief pitchers? Why? First of all, if anything, relief pitching is the teams strength right now. Second of all, it's a rather pointless aspect if we aren't fighting for a division title or wildcard spot.

#1 priority should be starting pitching depth in the minors and middle infield depth as a secondary option. There is no reason to be looking for relievers. Look at our stock right now: Glen Perkins, Casey Fien, Jared Burton, none of them required us to give up any value to keep/acquire. Last few trades for relievers have gone terribly.

I was thinking flipping a guy like Duensing for him. Or Doumit. I'd certainly be placing a call, he's the kind of guy that you could get for less value than you eventually re-flip him for.

The Twins NEED to be utilizing this crappy set of roster options to give buy-low options a chance to regain sell-high value.

I don't know anything about the Nationals and how current analysis and research plays into their decision making. If they value ERA and WHIP over xFIP and K/BB ratio, I am sure they would flip Storen for Duensing. Doumit is a target to any team that is unaware or discounts the recent analysis on receiving the ball. Any team that gives it any weight at all in their decision making would not put Doumit behind the plate.

I am certainly not a Nats aficionado so perhaps I am unaware of something but I don't think Duensing is a fit. The Nats have two left handed RPs. ERA's 1.61 and 2.12. Both have K/9 >7.9. On the other hand they have 2 right handed relievers that are struggling.

Ah, yeah I was speculating. I could only think of righties in my head, but now that I'm looking I see that. Maybe there isn't a fit for this, but I'd be asking.
