Article: Twins Minor League Report (6/23): Gibson, Buxton Promoted

Recommended Posts

Hudson Boyd's struggles are a real bummer. I know when he was drafted there was a lot of talk about him being a bullpen arm and so far he hasn't done much to change that perception cuz he seems to regularly get knocked around every 5th day.

The thing I notice is that his K:BB ratio is definitely not good. I mean he's young so walks might be something you'd expect as he works on his control but I definitely thought he'd have more K's.

Great report. Taking into account the long drive on short notice, I appreciate the performance of Pedro Hernandez today. I am also hoping that Buxton continues to rise.

I have a question Seth. When do we start getting excited about Aderlin Mejia? After two years of nothing special, he had a very good repeat year in 2012 for the GCL Twins as a 20 year old. I assumed he was penciled into going to ETon this year, however, was needed for awhile at Fort Myers. Given a chance, he has been hitting at a torrid pace from the day he arrived and 38 games later continues to hit at a .353 clip. Do you think he is for real? Or do you expect him to come back to earth as the year grinds on?

He absolutely was targeted for Elizabethton. That's why he started the season at EST. If there would have been a need at Cedar Rapids, he would have been sent there probably ,but the need came first in Ft. Myers. i'm told that he hasn't looked at all overwhelmed and as long as he continues to produce, they'll keep him in Ft. Myers. he is already 21, so age-wise, he's not excessively being pushed. I'm told that he is a middle infielder and can be a middle infielder. Defense is fine. I'm surprised with how he's sustained this. I am not ready to say he's a great prospect, but he's certainly made us all take notice.

"

Manuel Soliman made his first start in Ft. Myers in over a year"

Not true. He made his first start last Monday, 6/17.

Good catch... My bad! The story is still the same though, so only change the word "first" to "second" in the paragraph! :)

I was at the game yesterday. Boyd was a mess. His control was awful, but his demeanor was even worse. Every time he would throw a bad pitch he would glance at the dugout and roll his eyes. It was tough to watch him labor through 5 innings. Hopefully he can get it together.

Watching that team was incredible. Lots of talent at the plate. I was excited to catch Buxton before he was promoted. Watching him go from home plate to 3rd base is special. I can't wait to see him in a Twins uniform.

Did not mean to picky, but it is a good point. He did not pitch well in the first start. The opponents made very good contact.

With respect to Anderlin Mejia, he is not a major league shortstop. He has very poor footwork and his arm is not strong, in fact he has a little bit of a lollipop arc to his throw. Levi Michaels is a much better shortstop. Mejia is also very slightly built and I doubt he will develop enough to advance much further to tell you the truth. You never know how a player will develop and he could build up enough skills to be a utility type guy, but with zero pop in his bat and no real position I do not seeit.
