I wasn't taking a shot at them, I was just wondering. No need to get defensive. In any event, since you brought it up, they got a TOP 30 international prospect in EACH of the last 4 years? Can you refresh our memory on who they were?

Sano, Polanco, Kepler in 09

Landa, another DR pitcher, Pimentel in 10/11 - I'm blanking on names and years.

Minier and the Aussie lefty in 12

Google would fill in the blanks.

No, I understand they signed international players. I never said they didn't. My original question was if they would sign one of the current top 30 international prospects. And it was just a question. You brought up that they had done so in each of the last four years, and you seemed sure they had, so that's why I'm asking you to back up your claim, since you brought it up. If you can't provide the info to back your claim, that's fine.

Looks to me like he did.

Oh did he? He asked me to google the remaining info. He also didn't specify where they were ranked prior to being signed. On top of that, I NEVER claimed he wasn't telling the truth. I NEVER said the Twins were weak in the international market. Cause they aren't. I never claimed they were cheap in the international market, cause they aren't. ALL I did was say the list was out and asked IF they'd sign one of the top 30 international prospects, and he jumped in with his claim that seemed defensive. But, of course, everything has to turn into a combative discussion. Can't just ask a question.

He said they had signed a top 30 prospect in each of the past 4 seasons. Do we know the ones he listed were? We know Sano was.

I don't have the time to find each individual rank but everyone I mentioned was on BA's top 30 list for that year. I'm not saying that is the best ranking but it is the one I use.

So we got at least one top 30 prospect for each of the last four years? You get that I'm not attacking you right? I'm just looking for info I didn't have from someone who did.

Correct - the Twins have gotten at least one guy off of the BA top 30 each of the past 4 years.

No attack, it is a good question wish I had the time to give a better and more complete answer.

Didn't take the time to read the whole thread, but I'll say one name, ... Colabello. Is he the answer? No, but the guy is absolutely raking in AAA and needs major league AB's to see if he can be a stopgap along with Parmelee until Vargas, Hicks, Sano or whomever is ready to take over full time. Willingham, Morneau and Doumit have no real value on the Twins roster right now because none will be with the club beyond next season at the latest. Get whatever you can now and invest the savings in guys who might be a part of the future.

I'm glad we arrived at this Kum-ba-yah moment; the thread was looking like it needed to be summarily closed.

Now that we're all copacetic and stuff, I hope going forward the discussions (here and elsewhere) will remain more focused on the actual topics of threads, and less on guesses at motivations or states of mind of the posters, and a greater inclination to ignore such lapses when they occur rather than escalate.

Since I've pretty much ignoreds this thread until this page, I'll throw out a few top INTL FA. Sano, Polanco, Kepler, Pimintel, Jorge, Minier, Ko Lou Ho (or whatever), Nishioka. Those are just guys off the top of my head that were pretty good signs. Not really sure what the argument is about, but if it is the Twins presence INTL I would agree they have been soft. Things are changing though, and with the success of Sano (hopefully) more guys will want to come to the Twins

I would be interested in how you define soft? I would think they compare favorably with basically any franchise in the past 4 years - which was the same point that they were able to increase budgets with the opening of Target Field.

My 2 cents: Until about 2009, the Twins focused on Venezuela ans Australia, choosing not to compete in the Dominican. Now they spend as much there as anywhere. they also do a lot of work in Europe. That focus is paying off, and I expect that trend to continue.
