Article: Twins Minor League Hitter of the Month - May

May has gotten me really excited about Pinto and Vargas, who both displayed excellent (and much improved) plate discipline to go along with their triple-slash line:

Pinto: 19 BB 22 K in 99AB

Vargas: 15 BB 19 K in 96AB

like that MN is playing Colabello in RF to add some versatility.....wish they'ld also mix in some LF

Never hated Justin, but cant wait till he's dealt so Colabello/Arcia can get playing time in MN

I don't think I would be very excited to see Morneau shipped so that a career minor league player 3 years younger gets additional playing time. The only way I would be happy with him being traded, regardless of who gets additional playing time is if the return is a top 150 prospect. Otherwise, it makes more sense for the Twins to offer him a qualifying one year deal at the end of the year and get an additional draft pick next year if he opts to go elsewhere. As long as Arcia and Parmelee are getting everyday at bats I would rather see Morneau in a Twins uni for the remainder of the year.

My sentiments exactly.

This is the very thing I was wondering about these guys after reading their encouraging production. It's the thing I have to keep reminding myself when I start to get a little excited at the numbers Angel Morales and Adam Walker put up, as well. They seem extremely unlikely to continue to put up those kinds of numbers in AA if they are K prone.

Also, I rarely comment so I have to say that I love reading these minor league updates Seth. I have since I started reading "Seth Speaks" a few years ago, and I really appreciate that you, and now Jeremy and Cody, put in the time to do them.

Seth - I'm a big fan ... of Vargas (and all the other guys on your list). When is the last time we had such a range of great young hitters? As for Vargas, how is he able to hit for average while striking out so much? Makes me wonder if we're missing something by focusing on strikeouts so much. To me, a guys gonna strikeout. But give me power with a solid batting average. What's not to like with that?
